This is shocking. The NHS e-Referral service is used to refer patients from primary care into elective care.

So far in 24/25, 689,934 e-RS letters have been sent.

A staggering 8.09% have been translated, according to the Department of Health in response to my questioning.

23/24? 1,147,543 sent, 6.92% translated.

It's grown from 3.78% translated in 20/21.

If you can't speak English (with obvious exceptions), you should provide your own translation/interpretation or use tech.

Incredibly, that is actively discouraged by NHS England.

"Reliance on family, friends or unqualified interpreters is strongly discouraged and would not be considered good practice."

Over 8% of these communications being translated... Just think about that.

It is the NATIONAL health service, and it needs radical reform to put the British people first.
