Bill to regulate electronic healthcare services passes second reading in senate
The senate has passed for second reading the National E-Health Bill, 2026, which seeks to establish a comprehensive legal and institutional framework for the development, regulation, coordination and integration of electronic healthcare services in Nigeria.
The bill, sponsored by Barau Jibrin, deputy senate president and senator representing Kano north, was debated on Wednesday before being referred to the senate committee on health (secondary and tertiary) for further legislative work.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has retained Nigeria’s economic growth forecast at 4.1 percent for 2026, but warned that higher prices for essential commodities will worsen poverty and food insecurity.
In its July 2026 World Economic Outlook (WEO) Update released on Wednesday, the IMF said Nigeria’s gross domestic product (GDP) would expand by 4.1 percent this year and improve to 4.3 percent in 2027 — unchanged from its April forecast.

Police arrest 135 suspected cultists, recover 26 firearms in Lagos
The Lagos state police command says its operatives have arrested 135 suspected cultists and recovered 26 firearms, as well as 16 other dangerous weapons during simultaneous raids on criminal hideouts and black spots across the state.
Abimbola Adebisi, the command’s spokesperson, said in a statement issued on Wednesday that the raids were carried out to prevent cult-related violence associated with the July 7 cult celebration and initiation activities.
