I was asked, "How did you come up with the idea of summoning devils into a computer?"However, back in 1985 when I wrote Megami Tensei, the similarities between computer theory and magical theory were already being discussed on BBS networks and in magazines. It was a popular thinking thought among the otaku of that era, and I resonated with it deeply. To be a bit more specific...
the idea that humans have been like caterpillars all along seems v poetic when you learn that in ancient greek, the word psyche meant both ‘soul’ and ‘butterfly’. in a way, the spark of consciousness is higher guidance from the version of you that sits in metamorphosis completion
“A person who works with their hands is a laborer. A person who works with their hands and their brain is a craftsman. A person who works with their hands, their brain, and their heart is an artist.”
There’s a joke that goes something like “animals are a technology invented by plants to move seeds around” and this is the sense in which I think AI is a technology invented by humans to perform cognitive tasks.
I goo to a party, a guy is pitching me his new tech startup. I ask "p*rn or gambling?". He doesn't understand. I pull out the diagram showing the tech spectrum. Je laughs and says "it's a good tech sir". I look it up: it's gambling on p*rn.
I unironically think that the way our society is structured has extended the adolescent mindset of Modern Women out their entire lives, to the point that they don’t have the empathy and societal position to actually think like mothers.
They are societally adjusted like kids, so when they have a kid, they treat their own child like they’re the older sibling being forced to babysit.
"Post Partum Depression" exists due to the isolation of the nuclear family. It's the dread of the realisation that your whole life is permanently tied to your kid from now on, with no recognition of it.
Back in the day you had a large support network, grandparents, parents, aunts, cousins, etc and having a child was inherently a social event, it wasn't solely the responsibility of the mother. In such an environment the dread doesn't even occur. You got social status, support, admiration, recogniton and help from your entire family through your child. That's how it became fulfilling. Everyone around you found your baby cute and charming, gave you gifts, helped with taking care of it and so on.
Today? You're making tiktok videos as a cry for help because your friends don't care, your parents are too old, you barely know your cousins and your partner is busy working and you can't even afford the Latina nanny. It's genuinely so much more isolating. No wonder birth rates are falling.
