NYC summers hate your weekends.
I analyzed 3 years of Central Park rain data to see if the feeling was real.
It was.
27 of 38 summer weekends had measurable rain.
That’s 71%.
Friday was the rainiest day of the week, with rain on 43.6% of summer Fridays. Basically worse than a coin flip for your evening plans.
Sunday had the highest rainfall volume of any day, averaging 0.17 inches. It may not rain every Sunday, but when it does, it commits.
Thursday was objectively the best day to be outside in NYC: lowest precipitation, clearest skies, least weekend-related misery.
The wildest stat:
70.8% of rainy Sundays were preceded by a gross Friday or Saturday.
The weekend basically telegraphs its own downfall.
I built a full dashboard using NWS Central Park data with every weekend tracked and every raindrop counted:
The Mets are out of ABS challenges tonight after home plate umpire Junior Valentine determined Brett Baty called for a review.
Baty never touched his helmet.
This game just needs to end.
Vandy tries to steal home with 2 strikes... runner was called out, but Vandy tried to challenge, but it was strike 3. Runner in the replay, ended up being safe but didnt matter. Geeze man.
Assuming your catcher is already running at the runner, Tell your third basemen to come get the ball instead of just standing on the base.
Additionally, this is just another one of those funny small field things that goes away on the 90
I constantly hear "The best players at 12 don't become the best players at 18" but I don't often see evidence of that.
Been coaching in south central TX since 2009. I can tell you most of the best local high school seniors were amongst the best players at 12 w/few exceptions-
Super sneaky move here by Drew Gilbert catching the fly ball as low as possible to try and get Adolis to bite and leave early on the tag up. Don't think i've ever seen that.
Boston College baseball recorded eight stolen bases in the second inning of its game vs. Duke, tied for the second-most stolen bases in an inning in D-I history 😤
The Eagles ended the game with a record-tying 11 stolen bases👏
