Not a single mention of it in the Spring Statement.

And as for "helping young people," her Budgets have cost the sector 120,000 jobs. The vast majority being young people.

I strongly urge @RachelReevesMP to re look at Business Rates and stick to her promise of helping pubs, restaurants, hotels etc…if not, she will be remembered as The Chancellor who called last orders on Hospitality.

The Chancellor stood up during her Budget speech and said she was helping the British Pub.

In fact she introduced a stealth tax costing the British pub £380 million over the next three years.

She has called last orders on many pubs across the UK.

@Sacha_Lord Thanks to this budget and a revaluation that we didn’t know about our rv went from 35500 to 90k. Monthly it is 1k now and next year 3200. Simply can’t afford it! It’s utter madness and will cost jobs and businesses!

The fact that the Gov't are considering extending hours for pubs, highlights how out of touch they are with the sector.

They don't need extra hours, with extra costs, they need a reversal of the NI increase, reduction in Business rates and a lowering of VAT.

Extending hours is just a desperate headline.

Every day our local papers are reporting on the loss of our pubs, restaurants, bars, live music venues etc.

Enough is enough, drastic action needs to happen.

Currently on the way to London, to host a dinner tonight, bringing together organisations and Trade Bodies from every corner of the Night Time Economy.

High on the agenda:

Reduction in VAT
Reverse the NI increase
Review the Reform of Business Rates...it won't help City Centre venues.

To many businesses and jobs are at stake to allow this to carry on.

It will teach you, how to talk to anyone, think on your feet, work hard, deal with people, react to difficult situations and deliver exceptional customer service…skills that are invaluable in any career.

The PM URGENTLY needs to come out and categorically confirm no tax rises for Hospitality in the budget.

We are already one of the most taxed sectors.
Businesses are closing.
69,000 jobs have been lost since the last budget.
Communities and High streets are being ripped apart.

I saw an interview with AJ Tracey the other day and it hit the nail on the head.

Pubs are part of British culture. They’re where people meet. Where ideas are shared. Where strangers debate politics, sport, life. Where worldviews get challenged, rightly so, all over a pint.

But now? £7 pints at a push. Hundreds of closures. Fewer places to gather. Less cross-generational conversation. More isolation. More echo chambers.

If people aren’t meeting, they’re not talking. If they’re not talking, they’re not listening. And that, long term, leads to narrower thinking and a more divided society.

Reviving the pub isn’t about nostalgia. It’s about rebuilding our social fabric.
