Katharine Gun translated at @GCHQ and leaked a US plan to spy on UN votes before the Iraq War. She got sacked and charged. The case collapsed right before trial because exposing state secrets in open court turned out to be bad for state secrets.

Terry Bryan was a nurse who reported abuse at Winterbourne View care home. The regulator ignored him so he went to @BBCPanorama instead. Six carers went to prison. The regulator rediscovered its own job slightly late.

Osita Mba worked at HMRC @HMRCgovuk and exposed a secret deal letting @GoldmanSachs dodge £20m in interest. HMRC said thanks by tapping his and his wife's phones under anti terror laws.

Claire Gilham was a sitting judge who raised court safety concerns and discovered judges have zero legal whistleblower protection. She had to fight it to the Supreme Court just to count as an employee.
