The fix they finally shipped does the opposite of everything the movie did.

The 2011 film spent $200 million, more than The Dark Knight, and made Hal Jordan's suit entirely CGI. 1,300 effects shots. Four months of reshoots. A 3D conversion on top. The director later admitted superhero movies were never his genre.

Lanterns went the other way on every axis. HBO handed it to the Ozark showrunner, the co-creator of Lost and Watchmen, and Tom King, an ex-CIA officer who became DC's best comic writer. They cast 60-year-old Kyle Chandler, put the ring in a dying small town, and shot it like a murder mystery.

9.3 million people showed up in the first three days. That beat The Penguin's launch and Peacemaker's, and critics are calling it the best DC entry since The Batman.

The $200 million version died in one summer. The version set in a motel parking lot became one of HBO's biggest premieres ever.
