Baltimore County police are investigating skeletal remains discovered Friday near the Route 702 and Interstate 695 interchange that may be connected to Kimberly Gordon, a 46-year-old New Jersey woman who has been missing since June 21. The remains were found in a creek bed along the Back River tributary. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy to confirm the identity and determine the cause of death. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Baltimore County Police Department.

As Maryland residents face higher electricity bills, Gov. Wes Moore is calling for a broader energy strategy and faster approval of new energy infrastructure. Speaking at a regional energy forum, Moore said the state should pursue a mix of energy sources, including nuclear power, while continuing to invest in solar, wind, battery storage and transmission. Moore said outdated regulations and slow project approvals are limiting Maryland’s ability to meet growing energy demand. He also called for greater bipartisan cooperation and more consistent long-term energy policies, saying stable planning is essential as technologies like artificial intelligence increase electricity needs.

Three people were arrested early Saturday after a single-vehicle crash near the World War II Memorial in Northwest D.C. U.S. Park Police said a driver crashed into a lamppost on Kutz Bridge around 12:48 a.m. and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver was not injured. Before officers arrived, two people traveling in another vehicle stopped to assist the driver. Police later arrested both on drug possession charges. Authorities have not released the names of those arrested or identified the drugs involved. The crash remains under investigation.

Families in Albemarle County are questioning why they were not notified sooner after a school counselor was accused of abusing multiple children. Former Hollymead Elementary social and emotional learning coach Michael Swiney was indicted last month on 11 felony charges following an investigation that began in January 2026. Police say they have identified four victims and believe there could be more. The case has sparked criticism from parents and elected officials over the months-long delay in public notification. Rep. John McGuire has called for a state investigation, while Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s office says it is reviewing ways to strengthen protections for students. The case also comes as the U.S. Department of Education launches a nationwide initiative to hold school districts accountable for responding to sexual misconduct. Albemarle County Public Schools says it immediately reported the allegations to police and Child Protective Services, placed Swiney on administrative leave, and withheld public notification at the direction of investigators to avoid compromising the criminal case. The district says the superintendent and principal have since resigned, and the school board has adopted new policies aimed at improving student safety and oversight.

Newly released surveillance video from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport shows a man accused of assaulting TSA officers and confronting passengers inside the terminal. Federal prosecutors say 32-year-old Cornelius Queen, of Charles County, allegedly shoved a passenger, threw a water bottle at another traveler, and later attacked two TSA officers during the April 2 incident. TSA officers quickly intervened and took Queen into custody after he allegedly became violent. He was indicted last month on federal charges related to the assault. His attorney had not responded to requests for comment.
