If I sought the world's favor, I would put on finer clothes. But I want to appear in my simple, natural, everyday dress. For it is myself that I portray.
Glad to hear @JimThorpePA and Mauch Chunk on @TheRestHistory. The name Mauch Chunk comes from the native Lenape. Jim Thope was a member of the Sac and Fox Nation. Since the English have few place name references to their own British forebears, the hilarity comes as no surprise.

Fabulous discussion, @wmarybeard@holland_tom. But a question: is there any sense that Julius Caesar was assassinated as he prepared to invade Parthia, because of fears among his enemies that victory would have made him untouchable as a national hero?

Mary talks to Tom about Julius Caesar, and much more besides:
🤔To what extent was the Roman Republic a democracy?
🏛️How the republic differed to the empire
👨❤️💋👨What was the Romans' attitude to homosexuality?
What a fantastic series this is on Nelson, @dcsandbrook, @holland_tom, @TheRestHistory. The narrative of the Battle of Copenhagen alone is incredibly riveting. This podcast rivals the best of radio down through the years.

There is nothing properly good for us but what promotes justice, temperance, courage and wisdom, and nothing bad but what sends us in the contrary direction.
Speaking of underlying thinking errors, this author presentation on the dynamics of 'misbelief' is pretty fascinating: https://t.co/6o2VWovfFl @DonJRobertson
What if, instead of criticizing anti-semites and other bigots directly, we focused on the underlying thinking errors visible in their language? You'd probably have to expose the fallacies in their reasoning countless times but maybe eventually it would affect their thinking.
Fascinating discussion here about #Buddhism and #Stoicism, and the migration of philosophical ideas between the ancent East and West. Thanks to @DonJRobertson and @MatthewZGindin. Did the Buddha know of Heraclitus? Did Indian traders debate with Socrates? https://t.co/UPfWGSk7Ca
