People really don't want to accept that many disabilities can't just be pushed through and it's not about willpower. Even when they're compassionate, people really think everyone would work if the consequences were just bad enough and I notice that a lot.
So much discourse around disability and disability benefits consists of wanting to grab people by the shoulders and yell 'I DON'T KNOW HOW TO CONVINCE YOU TO CARE ABOUT OTHER HUMAN BEINGS'.
there’s this weird phenomena with disability where people think we receive endless sympathy and kindness from everyone so they think “i’m not gonna do that, i’m gonna treat them like everyone else.” but what they don’t get is everyone thinks like that.
Shoutout to the friends who understand that existing on social media takes a separate set of spoons than responding to messages and phone calls
Y’all are the real ones
sorry i didn’t text you back but you saw me tweeting in the meantime. it’s just that i view twitter as my personal diary for some insane reason & i view texting as a SAW trap designed to expose my lack of social graces
