@PercyHopweather@msallison@madlaine63@DrJasonJohnson In any case, if you can put forth an argument which is substantiated by evidence and does not appeal to post hoc ergo propter hoc, affirming the consequent, perfect solution fallacy, composition fallacy, etc., I’d be delighted to read it in the morning. Best wishes & good night.
@PercyHopweather@msallison@madlaine63@DrJasonJohnson Not quite. It’s more that I have to be at work at 0600 tomorrow, and I need to meal prep, get my uniform ready and then shower rather than waste my time aiming for moving goalposts and trying to explain why I reject your anecdotes and fallacious “reasoning.”
@PercyHopweather@msallison@madlaine63@DrJasonJohnson And while you’re at it, please name a single Democratic Party presidential candidate who’s fought for civil rights, lest you appeal to a perfect solution fallacy.
@PercyHopweather@Bsanchez1213@DrJasonJohnson@msallison@madlaine63 I’ll donate $100 to any candidate of your choosing should you cite a single piece of legislation that Bernie sponsored which sought to benefit only those within the white community.
When you come up short, you’ll perhaps understand my point.
@PercyHopweather@msallison@madlaine63@DrJasonJohnson I didn’t realize that fighting for the marginalized of all colors, ethnicities, etc. meant that he was “missing in action from the civil rights struggle.”
Bernie seems to take a holistic approach to solving problems for the underprivileged, but you’re welcome to your opinion.
@PercyHopweather@msallison@madlaine63@DrJasonJohnson This article was a sea of anecdotes with no supporting evidence. Do you have anything that’s more substantive, or should I simply cite an article with opposing anecdotes and then figure out how best to proceed after we reach an impasse?
@PercyHopweather@msallison@madlaine63@DrJasonJohnson To the best of my knowledge, he’s not passed a single piece of legislation which was intended to benefit only people in the white community. Should we therefore conclude that he doesn’t represent white people?
@PercyHopweather@msallison@madlaine63@DrJasonJohnson I think that the context of the question pertained to sponsored legislation which affects exclusively the black community. Are you suggesting that a legislator representing all people within a population therefore means that he doesn’t represent a segment of the population?
@PercyHopweather@msallison@madlaine63@DrJasonJohnson Your rebuttal here essentially serves as fallacious appeals to affirming the consequent and post hoc ergo propter hoc “reasoning.” Are you suggesting that a single politician is responsible for the laws that others around him pass?
@msallison@PercyHopweather@madlaine63@DrJasonJohnson I agree. I get where you’re trying to go with this, so I’ll yield the floor to you so that you can make your case for how I’m apparently lacking in humility.
@PercyHopweather@msallison@madlaine63@DrJasonJohnson I didn’t suggest that black voters were uninformed. Rather, I noted that “many voters are unaware” of Bernie’s civil rights activism. I then gave two reasons why the uninformed are likely to be so. Reading comprehension is a virtue. But now on to the matter of “black issues.”
@ellouelle @msallison@madlaine63@DrJasonJohnson I wasn’t expecting the goalposts to move this early, but okay. He’s fought for civil rights his whole career; but for the sake of argument, let’s assume that his activism is isolated to just the 1960s.
Can you name another active candidate who fought for civil rights?
@ellouelle @msallison@madlaine63@DrJasonJohnson No one’s forcing you to read or otherwise learn about Bernie’s activism. If you wish to persist in blissful ignorance, you’re welcome to shelter yourself in a safe echo chamber. But telling others what to do / not do because you’re uncomfortable with facts is simply unreasonable.
@TomFitton@realDonaldTrump P1: A “coup” is conventionally defined as “a sudden, violent, and illegal seizure of power from a government.”
P2: The impeachment process is not “a sudden, violent, and illegal seizure of power from a government.”
C: Therefore, the impeachment process is not a coup.
