He didn’t deal with the hypocrisy and disrespect that Africans and Caribbeans push towards black Americans these days. Malcolm was a pan Africanist so of course they showed him respect. He most likely wasn’t called a culture-less Akata
Brother Malcolm addresses Black Americans who look at African and Caribbean brothers and sisters as foreigners:
"So thoroughly has this been done to us that now we don’t even know that there is somebody else that looks like we do. When we see them, we look at them like they’re strangers. And when we see somebody that doesn’t look anything like us, we call them our friends. That’s a shame.
It shows you what has been done to us. Yes, I mean our own people, we see our people come here who look exactly like we do, our twins, can’t tell them apart, and we say, “Those are foreigners.”
Malcolm X at the Audubon, December 20, 1964
Niggas still play dumb about what "Talking white" really means cuz Denzel Washington is very articulate and would never be told he "talks white" lol...it's in the accent and vernacular.
How come none of the leaders of #BlackLivesMatter were surveilled by the FBI and killed under mysterious conditions? Darren and the others must have had that Black male privilege.
@panafricanpac I never said it was an ethnicity, it’s obviously a nationality. I asked because I was wondering if it worked as both the same way Haitian does.
@cliff_ohio@MrGChristopher His tone & inflection ≠ the use of proper English. Everybody remembers the valley girl accent, he's using a male version of that... thus he's "talking white" & fitting a stereotype by doing so
He brings up such a great point. Why does black feminist criticism have so little to say about black power manhood in light of the fact that two black male comrades broke Assata Shakur out of prison and got her to Cuba safely? So it’s macho black patriarchy when George Jackson was breaking out of prison and trying to wage war against the system, according to bell hooks. Would people agree that it’s the same black patriarchy when it leads to the only black female member of the BLA being broken out of prison?
@NEGRO_studiess So when we talk shit back to them it’s “we hate Caribbeans and Africans”
But when they start the shit and disrespect us it’s “niggas hate niggas”
Bro this was only a month after Jonathan turned 17, so he was just 16 years old when he plotted this out. We not built like this anymore tho, we’d rather point guns at each other than the state.
Some are, but definitely far less than in the 60s and 70s. We have had the fire for struggle stomped out of us. And we also now have to contend with the popular, bourgeois demonization of Black militancy as inherently patriarchal and misogynistic. Plus the ethnonationalists who think Black radicalism is moot and desire greater integration into American institutions/social life.
3% of all private wealth(capital) in the US is owned by a black person.
80% is owned by whites.
Primacy of private property means this dichotomy literally cannot change and also means that those whites who own the 80% have control over the lives of the black ppl who don’t own
