Celebrating the life and works of animals in Film and TV.
The ones you look at and think THIS WAS MADE IN 1942, THAT DOG HAS DEFINITELY POPPED IT'S CLOGS NOW.
Good Afternoon Doggy Style Fans!
After a couple of days away (it takes about 15 minutes to research and write these - and they say the nurses have it tough) we are back!
Today's Little Dead Doggy Legend is Pippin from the nostalgic BBC Kids show Come Outside.
Pippin was a mixed-breed dog, half Tibetan Terrier, half Bearded Collie and was actually played by TWO dogs. OG Pippin and Pippin's grand-dog-son Mr Higgins (a cracking name for a dog I'm sure you'll agree).
The original Pippin was a complete bitch (lady dog) and retired from the role of Pippin at the end of Series 1 as she was too OLD, allowing Mr Higgins to take over future series.
Come Outside aired from 23rd September 1993 to 18th March 1997 and centred on Auntie Mabel (Lynda Baron) and Pippin (Pippin) teaching young viewers about the world around them, whilst travelling around the country in a polka-dotted Slingsby T67 Firefly aeroplane.
Typically each episode would feature a sub-plot which involved Pippin (the dog) getting up to various forms of mischief without Mabel having the foggiest.
Some examples include:
Eating the sausages from Mabel's lunchbox, hiding the bar of soap to avoid having a bath, providing a false alibi for a man accused of flashing his todger in a crowded park and finding a jumper knitted by Auntie Mabel and then pulling on it and causing it to unravel.
Sadly I can confirm that both Pippin's (the bitch and her stud grandson) are now completely and fully DEAD. Original Pippin passing away at the end of the '90s and replacement Pippin dying in 2008. Both dogs died of old age with ZERO suspicious circumstances, despite what The Scum newspaper would like you to believe.
Bonus fact: Lynda Baron (Auntie Mabel) is also wholly DECEASED, passing away in March 2022 after an incident with a bull whilst on holiday in Spain.
RIP BOTH Pippins
(and Mabel)

@jenuflexion If you're a fan of the XL bully's (being destroyed) you probably WON'T like my page paying tribute to the long dead doggy actors from TV and film. Or you MIGHT xxx
@cornE_cob@TheCinesthetic One doesn't have to look too hard for stories about Jared Leto acting (allegedly) inappropriately with underage fans of his band.
Good Afternoon Doggers!
Today's Little Dead Doggy Legend is not one dog but an entire troupe - the dogs who played Marley in Marley & Me.
Marley & Me (the film) is based on Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog (the book) by John Grogan.
As the film covers 14 years of doggy life the production used 22 different Yellow Labradors.
Statistically as the film was released in 2008, therefore filmed in 2006/2007, all 22 Yellow Labs are likely to be fully DEAD.
However, the dog with the most featured screen time as Marley was called Clyde.
During the filming of Marley & Me, the human actors Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson would have meat flavoured baby food smeared on their faces for scenes which required Marley (the dog) to lick them. This is reminiscent of our old friend Moose from the hit sitcom Frasier who would lick fish oil and liver pâté off of Kelsey Grammers chops.
Clyde was said to be a fickle beast, not really preferring Owen over Jen-Jen or Jen-Jen over Owen - he only preferred who was holding the treats.
Clyde was a raving scientologist. After filming concluded he labelled Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston as Suppressive Persons after they rebuffed Clyde's advances at recruiting them into the church.
The real Marley died in December 2003 in circumstances described as 'not suspicious'.
Marley & Me (the film) was later followed up by Marley & Me: The Puppy Years but this was widely regarded as terrible and was ignored by everybody.
Bonus facts: The day that the real Marley died - December 29th 2003 - saw the famous British comedian Bob Monkhouse also die. The number one song at the time in the U.S was Hey Ya by Outkast whilst in the U.K it was Mad World by Michael Andrews Ft. Gary Jules. And I'm still bitter that Mad World pipped The Darkness - Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End) to the number 1 spot.
RIP Marley, Clyde and the other 21 dogs who portrayed Marley (also probably dead).
