In 2023, Stereogum's chief editor (Tom Breihan) published an explicit article in which he reflected on his experience working at Pitchfork in 2010 and the publication's editorial bias culture at the time.

He said that while he & Ryan Dombal were working there, Ryan sent him "Teenage Dream" because he immediately loved it despite Pitchfork's higher-ups having already decided Katy Perry was “insufficiently cool” and therefore not worth covering. Breihan admitted he loved the album too.

He also highlighted the irony of him being a grown man working for a publication that "wouldn't take Katy Perry seriously until after her biggest moment had passed." Pitchfork didn't review Teenage Dream until 2021, more than a decade after its 2010 release.
