A poet withdrew their submission ‘cuz of a thread about “new” poets & frivolous submissions. It made them feel really insecure. Whatever the context, I just wanna say that NO submission is frivolous. We need to help each other grow, not spread self-consciousness like the plague.
It’s a January evening, & the sky outside is pale-blue & marigold, & we’re feeling a lot of love for our beautiful contributors & authors & readers & listeners tonight. Thank you for being here, songbirds. This job brings us so much joy & it’s because of you. #halfmysticlovesyou

This week we bring you "Exit Study" by Duncan Slagle!

Slagle is a queer poet and performer from Alaska & then Minnesota. His chapbook Father Hunt is forthcoming online from L'Éphémère Review. He loves birds.
“Two girls are in love, & this is their undoing. Or: two girls are in love, & this is their beginning. A year of bones & birds & brightness. A year of realising that a girl doesn’t need a knife to start a war, doesn’t need to prick her finger to lose her… https://t.co/ZybLrYB7nq
“However, like Tantalus, I crave elusive fruit –
out of reach – as I set these words on a page –
or like Prometheus, I translate fire
from one language to kindle
syllable-flames in a fledgling wind.”
