Yes, There was no shortage of graphic and violent content online in the 2000s.
However, as someone who lived through that era, I can say that children back then didn’t spend every day on their phones browsing the internet whenever and wherever they wanted, instead, they played video games that didn’t require internet connection. Even if they had computer and internet access, it wasn’t social media that drew them in, it was games. Moreover, back then, every online children’s game and media outlet would teach you about internet safety.
