Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa says the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will initiate disciplinary action against its Horana organiser Charith Abeysinghe, who was arrested earlier on Thursday by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
Responding to a question from government in Parliament, Premadasa said there would be “no place” in the SJB for wrongdoers or criminals.
“We will definitely conduct a disciplinary inquiry and take the strongest possible action if necessary. There is no place in our party for those who commit wrongdoing or criminal acts. We will arrive at a conclusion through an investigation,” he said.
Attorney-at-Law Rakkhitha Rajapaksa, SJB Horana organiser Charith Abeysinghe and former Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd. Director Aruna Sri Chathuranga were arrested earlier in the day over allegations of soliciting a Rs. 120 million bribe in connection with underworld figure Nadun Chinthaka Wickramaratne, alias “Harak Kata”, in 2023, according to the Bribery Commission.
