The U.S. Supreme Court set back civil rights in its Grants Pass v. Johnson decision, which gives local governments discretion to ban people from sleeping outside, essentially criminalizing homelessness.
DRC condemns the harm this decision will inflict on our communities and will continue to fight to make voluntary, community-based care the standard. As a former encampment resident, David R. explains: “This is what works; having advocates that are for you and not against you; equal assistance available for everyone; caring case management. I was given love, not judgement.”

About the Public Input Forum:
Disability Rights Florida wants your input about what issues matter most to the disability community. Each year, Disability Rights Florida reviews its goals and priorities for our legal and advocacy work. We believe these decisions should be based directly on the experiences of individuals with disabilities and their families. Join some of the DRF staff, Board of Directors, and PAIMI Advisory Council-our mental health advisory council-and share issues across all disabilities including physical, intellectual, psychiatric, developmental, neurological, mental health, and others. Topics that you tell us to focus on may include community integration, housing, accessible emergency planning, education, abuse and neglect, accessible mental health services, and more. If you join us, enter to win a $50 gift card and tell us how we can better advocate for your rights.
We are excited to be attending and presenting at this year’s @TheFamilyCafe! A BIG thank you to @FloridaAPD for collaborating with us to survey autism families from across Florida to assess the needs of families in preparedness and recovery activities for natural disasters. Please stop by the APD table and go to the QR Code to complete the survey today. #FamilyCafe2024 #FamilyInitiative
