Dear Daughter,
Every woman is Eve.
At some point in her life, she will be in a good place, with a good person, and feel tempted to sabotage it all.
Eve had everything a woman could ever dream of, in the Garden of Eden, yet the thought came to her, “It’s not enough. Something more is out there. Something is missing.”
Proverbs 30:15 (ESV)
The leech has two daughters: Give and Give. Three things are never satisfied; four never say, “Enough”
The way to overcome this temptation is to learn to be content. Paul went through real trials and said:
Philippians 4:11 (ESV)
…for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be CONTENT.
How much should a person have before she is content? My grandmother was from the generation that lived through tough times—WW2. She said, “Back in my day, if a man had a job and didn’t have bad habits, like gambling, he was considered a good man. If a woman got such a man, she was content.” Now women want so much more.
What does the Bible say?
1 Timothy 6:8 (ESV)
But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.
If you’re saved and not going to hell, if you’re not hungry and homeless, you’re doing better than 75% of this world. You can always have more. And God will give you more, but on the condition that you learn to be content just having Him.
Contentment takes a little and builds a thankful life.
Discontentment takes a lot of good things and is unappreciative. Don’t spoil a good situation for nothing. Eve did this. The Fall would not have happened if she was content (and if the man did not submit to his wife, but that’s for another day.)
I pray that you will have abundance, but most of all that you will be content—thankful for every step along the way from childhood to adulthood, from zero income to financial freedom, from this family to your next family.
Love,
Papa
