"It is admitted that the New Testament contains richer and fuller communications of the divine plan of redemption than all prior revelations; therefore the Old Testament must be read in light of the New, for the Old is prophetic of the New, and the New is but the fulfillment of the Old."
-Excerpt from the 1611/1885 Edition of the King James Holy Bible: An Introductory of History of the Holy Bible.
In December, an 85-year-old North Carolina widow called a tree company begging for firewood, she said she was cold and couldn't heat her home.
The owner delivered it free and then fixed her roof, her heat, her car, raised $20,000 for her Christmas... and STILL maintains her property free, checking on her every week.
Her name is Nana Abernathy. She had just lost her husband and was struggling to survive on her own when she made that call last December.
Paul Brittain, the owner, showed up with the firewood himself. No charge.
But while he was there, he noticed things: a leaking roof, a broken heating unit, a car that needed tires.
So he came back, this time with his whole crew.
They fixed the roof.
Replaced the heat.
Put new tires on her car.
All for free.
Then, for Christmas, Paul raised $20,000 for her.
To this day, he maintains her property at no charge and checks on her every single week, just to make sure she's okay.
He has never charged her a dime.
This is the America I love!!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Congress will be voting for the NDAA tomorrow which tie the U.S. military to Israel’s military.
Everyone that votes for it supports bombing children likes these poor little ones. And will guarantee our military intelligence helping them.
The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.
Psalm 28:7
🚨WOW!!!
Firefighters and college football players showed up to a Tennessee senior home...to pull grandmas and grandpas down a MASSIVE slip 'n slide!!!
Seniors with dementia and Parkinson's laughed like little kids again.
This is the annual "Ride 'n Slide" at Adams Place in Murfreesboro, Tennessee where a giant tarp is stretched across the lawn and the Murfreesboro Fire Department keeps it soaked and lifts residents safely on and off.
The Middle Tennessee State football team spent their day pulling grandmas across the water on inner tubes and cheering them on every single ride.
One resident, Mike Mitchell, an Army veteran and a retired minister who preached for SIXTY YEARS, talked himself into it right there on the lawn.
One grandma went down FOUR times and came up smiling saying, "Well that was fast!"
Organizers say the residents with dementia and Parkinson's light up brightest of all.
For one afternoon, no diagnoses, no age, just water, laughter, and people cheering your name.
That's so amazing...
GOD BLESS THESE PEOPLE!!!! 🇺🇸
A 92-year-old North Carolina man got so bored 2 months into retirement that he applied to work at Chick-fil-A...
...his smile, kindness, and passion for Jesus became so contagious that when he got sick and missed 3 days of work, an ENTIRE TOWN began asking where he was.
His name is Gilbert Martin.
Everybody calls him "Mr. Gil."
Mr. Gil is 92 years old, and works at the Chick-fil-A on Oleander Drive in Wilmington, NC.
He spent decades working in the natural gas industry and when he retired, he greeted people at Sam's Club for 12 MORE years, until they eliminated his position.
Most people would call that a sign to finally rest, but not Mr. Gil!
Two months into retirement, he got bored... so he walked into Chick-fil-A and put in an application.
He was 86 years old at the time.
He's been there ever since.
Not one or two shifts a week either. Monday through Friday.
He says the full schedule gives him more chances to be there for people who need him.
His official job is dining host.
Clean tables.
Clean floors.
But Mr Gil doesn't see it that way... as he describes it, his real job is:
"I get a lot of people that are coming in, just been to the doctor, and got bad news... I'm able to be an encourager; the Lord gave me that."
A 92-year-old man who could be resting at home... chooses to stand in a dining room five days a week... so strangers on the worst day of their lives don't have to be alone.
And Wilmington noticed.
When Mr. Gil caught a cold and missed a couple of days, the owner said he was FLOODED with HUNDREDS of customers who were panicked about him.
Mr. Gil has zero plans to retire.
He says if you ever see him working, come say hi.
"I don't know what 92 is supposed to feel like, but I feel great. Serving others has always brought me joy because I believe that a smile and a kind word can make someone's day a little brighter.”
We need more of this in the world!!!!
On my tour bus, I just held hands and prayed with Gene Simmons that Jesus would make himself known to him in such a way they he couldn’t deny him. Pray that Gene gives his life to Christ. God’s will be done🙏
You know what shook me when I was Muslim?
The story of Hosea. God tells a prophet to marry a woman He knows will betray him.
She does. She runs to other men. She ends up enslaved, sold, used up, worthless to the world.
And God tells Hosea to go BUY HER BACK.
To pay money for his own wife who cheated on him, and love her again. Hosea 3.
I thought it was the most humiliating command in the Bible. Why would any man do that?
Then I realized I was the wife.
I gave my heart to everything but God. I chased other masters. I sold myself cheap. I made myself worthless.
And God looked at me, the betrayer, and didn’t say “you’re not worth it.”
He said, “Name the price. I’m buying her back.”
That’s the Gospel. God doesn’t wait for the unfaithful to come crawling back clean.
He pays to redeem them while they’re still dirty.
Islam told me to make myself worthy of God.
Hosea showed me a God who pays to redeem the unworthy.
The cross was Him naming the price.
Praise the Lord.
I’ve been one of the camp nurses at my kids church camp the last few days. We had a teen boy come in 2 days ago with bad toe pain. Limping. He looked like he hadn’t showered or changed clothes in a few days…par for the course with teen boys at camp😅 Overweight. Awkward. Doesn’t make eye contact.
Of course I’m making all kinds of judgements and dreading taking off his shoes and socks because it’s probably going to stink to high heaven.
It does.
I told him he had a paronychia with cellulitis of the toe. I told him I needed to call his mom to get permission to treat.
“I don’t have a mom.”
😭💔
“I’m so sorry. Can I call your dad? Do you have a legal guardian?”
“You can try my dad but he won’t answer. He pours concrete and leaves for work at 1-2 am and doesn’t get home until around 5 pm.”
We clean and soak his filthy feet while we try to get ahold of someone.
He looks at another one of the nurses and quietly says: “This is the nicest anyone has ever been to me. I usually have to take care of myself.”
😭💔😭💔
I feel awful for every quick judgement I made. It’s all making sense now.
Pastor somehow gets ahold of grandma. I get permission to treat. Pastor picks up the prescription I sent and returns to camp with a pack of new socks and three new pairs of shoes that fit. The look on that boys face when we handed him the bags…I’ll never forget. He couldn’t believe it.😭
24 hours later his toe was drained, he had 4 doses of antibiotics. His pain was “so much better”. His feet were clean with clean socks and shoes that fit. He is smiling. He is making eye contact and in the clinic on time for every dose of medication.
We prayed with him and hugged him when he left today. I don’t know what will happen. The socks will get dirty again and I don’t know how or when they will be washed.
But that boy will always remember the Christians loved him well. They washed his feet. They gave him dignity. They prayed for him. They helped heal him.
When his dad wearily walks in the door from 18 hours of hard labor, he will tell him about camp. I pray he comes to know and trust the source of love, healing, mercy, and provision…Jesus Christ himself.
Sometimes the veil is thin, and it’s often in the places of humility. It seems that is how the Lord likes to work. You can’t write those moments, only God can. Praise.
