imo you literally get that “spark” all over again. everything is a new experience to your kid. seeing a bug? coolest thing ever. eating ice cream. amazing. going for a car ride. painting a picture. even every day normal activities like grocery shopping are an incredible experience with them. holidays like christmas, easter, halloween etc all feel like how they felt like when you were a kid again. everything is exciting again because you are seeing the world for the first time through their eyes

Communist theory doesn’t believe in natural rights, but you’ll see them get very angry over things like this. While not a human right I do think it’s a good thing we provide basic life saving care to those who can’t afford it. Which we do! Hurray problem solved!

But that’s not why these people are angry. The homeless guy who needs meds to save his life gets them. Normal people however have to pay for their healthcare. It’s our payments that keep the system going, the one that does provide that homeless guy with meds. It costs money and that’s the source of the anger.

This is why they spend inordinate amount of time on topics like landlords or grocery prices. Things that we as a society strive to ensure the lowliest possess, but are constant sources of economic heartache for the normal person. They just don’t want to pay into the system. They want it provided. Me orange give you me.

Property taxes get attacked a lot more than income taxes, because they’re one of the few taxes you actually have to pay yourself. I write a check to the county for the privilege of owning property. If you had to do the same for your income tax there would be a similar outrage. The English pay way more in taxes and they get the NHS! The cost is hidden in a layer of abstraction, so the people are less upset about the rising costs of healthcare.

In short people don’t like having to give their money for the basics. They think money should only be used for things they enjoy. It’s too abstract a concept that money is the method to which they contribute productively to a system. It’s all just a taking to them. Me orange eat, you me give orange.
