Cmsr Naledi Chirwa is one of the most radical, fearless, courageous, enduring and strong women I know.
“Jacob Zuma and Cyril Ramaphosa caused high levels of crime and unemployment, not illegal immigrants. I was the head of state here, there were undocumented immigrants and the economy was growing, crime levels were down.” - President Thabo Mbeki 🇿🇦
UNIVEN graduates, meet Advocate Lerato Moela.
Lerato grew up in Muledane, Thohoyandou Block J, just a short walk from the UNIVEN campus. On days when he had no money for transport, he walked to class. He earned his BCom Accounting degree at the University of Venda, before completing his LLB at the University of the Witwatersrand.
Before law school, Lerato built a career in public service:
- Internal Audit at Thulamela Municipality
- Internal Audit & Compliance at the Department of Labour in Polokwane
- Fraud & Investigations at SASSA in Cape Town
- Internal Auditor at the Department of Justice in Cape Town
He understands how public institutions work—and what it costs when they do not.
As a law student, long before he held any title, Lerato was already appearing for students in disciplinary hearings. Graduates and active students called on him, and he answered. He was later elected to the leadership structure of the Wits Law Students Council, leaving a clear footprint in student matters.
Today, Lerato is an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa, practising at the Duma Nokwe Group of Advocates.
Now, he is standing for President of the UNIVEN Convocation.
