I'm off to #bluesky - this place is sadly pretty horrible now - and it's really refreshingly nice over there. Interesting folk without all of the misogyny and unbridled racism.
A weird position for me to be in - defending Kemi Badenoch (who I find abhorrent politically), but #Chope here is at his awful, misogynistic worst - and it's all said in a 'reasonable tone'.
Women, know your place.... (both candidates btw, Jenrick & Badenoch have three children)
NEW: Conservative MP Sir Christopher Chope says Kemi Badenoch is “preoccupied with her children” and “you can't spend all your time with your family at the same time as being leader of the opposition”.
He was speaking on this month's @itvmeridian The Last Word. @itvnewspolitics
@LBeddowDorset He does though Laura, he really does.
He is Conservative MP for Christchurch.
This is a horrifying and persistent attitude.
He is paid £90K a year plus to represent my constituency and at least 50% of his constituents are women.
I wish I were shocked by this… my MP has just said that women with young children will be too preoccupied to do important jobs.
I think this is emblematic of the remaining parliamentary Tory Party - extremist right wing views and horrible, horrible old-fashioned misogyny.

Labour’s Helena Dollimore told the Christchurch MP: “I think many women will be shocked by those comments. I'm really proud that we live in a country where we've had women who've become PM.” Lib Dem Alex Brewer also challenged Christopher Chope.

Pure old fashioned misogyny from Christopher Chope
I was going to say “unbelievable” but having been represented by Chope for 27 years, his comments are not in any way a surprise
What is unbelievable is he sits on the Parliamentary committee for modernisation🙄
I couldn’t agree more and music is a part of all this. Let’s hope the PM can deliver this for our young. If there are State Schools (my grandson is in one in S London) which properly deliver The Arts, why not all? It’s not even aspirational, it’s surely mandatory.
@Attention2place It was absolutely WONDERFUL to see you - thank you so much for coming. Just fantastic to have you there in the space in the lovely autumn gloaming Xxxxx @Dorset_NL
