The biggest way that Lanterns misunderstands Green Lantern as a concept is....the ring does NOT choose you because you are fearless. It chooses you because you can overcome great fear...In fact, when the ring shows up, it says "....you have the ability to overcome great fear." So if this show does not respect the basic tenet of Green Lantern, it is a series that is made by people who have no conception of heroism...in a universe that continually shits on the source material.

Episode three of Lanterns sucked. Don’t watch it.

If you don’t believe me here’s a quick run-down:

John Stewart’s father wasn’t chosen as a Lantern because the Guardians don’t understand black people and how they’re not allowed to visibly exhibit fear or else they’re thought of as weak.

Hal Jordan was only chosen as the Lantern due to white privilege and the Guardians don’t actually want him because he’s a screw-up.

John Stewart’s parents are insane and abused John until he no longer feels fear.

The episode was DEI. It was political and mean spirited and definitely anti-family.

I don’t understand why we’re still getting woke storytelling in 2026. Why can’t we have an edgy green lantern show without it being 45 mins of politically left messaging?

This show will fail @hbomax because instead of telling something new and exciting we’re still getting woke slop. Don’t follow Disney. Right the ship.

This episode in no way diminishes Hal Jordan’s claim or worthiness to being chosen to be a Green Lantern. The story she told was strictly John’s mother’s perspective from her own POV, which we know is not Hal’s full story. Banger episode. #Lanterns
