Archaeologists work to extract a canoe at Lake Munson outside Tallahassee, Florida. The canoe was hollowed out using fire and stone tools some 500 to 800 years ago during the Fort Walton cultural period in Florida history. Look for the Lake Munson Canoe at the @MuseumFLHistory.

A week ago today was the anniversary of the Tallahassee Bus Boycott.
On May 26, 1956, Wilhelmina Jakes and Carrie Patterson, two young Black women attending Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, sat down in the whites-only section of a segregated bus in Tallahassee.
Reverend C.K. Steele, pastor at Bethel Baptist Church, formed the Inter-Civic Council to manage logistics and organize a carpool to get protestors without other modes of transportation to work.
Rev. Steele himself said, "I would rather walk in dignity than ride in humiliation."
