Every baby cinephile goes through their "Nolan is overrated" phase thinking it'll make them look more sophisticated and discerning than 'the normies' but I'm glad I grew out of it. One of our greats, with a deep love not just for cinema but for 'the movies' and what they mean.
Christopher Nolan says THE ODYSSEY is ultimately about the idea that a society can only function through respect for strangers.
He believes that, despite nearly 3,000 years since Homer wrote the epic, that fundamental truth about human nature hasn’t changed.
What I found most brilliant about this scene is that Nolan intentionally never let us hear the siren's song.
Because if the audience had heard it, they would've walked out of the theater and straight into the sea.
