The military knows this is happening and in 2022, after years of outcry, cleared the records of hundreds of soldiers investigated for participating in a recruiting bonus program.
But it has fought to avoid doing the same for others, baffling a judge who wrote this last year:
An unknown number of soldiers & veterans never charged with a crime can't pass a background check due to a military process that falsely reports them as having been arrested.
Lawyers say @POTUS or @SecDef could fix this "simply by picking up the phone."

Context: Border Patrol is struggling to hire new agents fast enough to replace retirees. Some in CBP say they lose good candidates to unreliable lie detector tests, many of whom go on to join other law enforcement departments.
Bill from @RepDanCrenshaw could streamline Border Patrol's hiring process by eliminating the polygraph requirement for some candidates with law enforcement or military credentials.

One former agent joined Border Patrol before the polygraph requirement. She left to care for her kids, and had to take two polygraphs when she tried to return to her job.

Border Patrol's polygraph failure rate used to be 65%, nearly twice as high as other federal agencies, according to a 2017 AP report. CBP declined to provide updated failure stats, but a Border Patrol union spokesman says it's still around 50%.
Three hours after fed judge refused to grant temporary restraining order against Oregon Measure 114, Harney County Judge Robert S. Raschio temporarily enjoined the entire Measure 114 based on OR Constitution resulting from lawsuit from Gun Owners of America. (1/2)
BREAKING: The Army confirms it is reviewing ~1,900 cases in which soldiers were slapped with a flag on their record for participating in a recruiting program. Of reviews completed so far, they say the majority require some form of correction. Story to come

An amendment to the NDAA would have cleared the records of innocent soldiers targeted by a sweeping Army investigation. It didn't get enough votes. Conservative lawmakers and advocates say they'll keep trying.
