REAL CONVERSATIONS

Real Conversations about the lives we chose, almost chose & might choose again. Reinvention • ambition • identity. One question at a time & no easy answers.

[REAL CONVERSATIONS @TheHighYield]

I’m trying to build a life I actually want to live.

Which sounds simple until you add money, ambition, work, expectations, and the occasional terrible decision.

I’m interested in what happens when ambition meets real life.

How much money is enough?
How much work is too much?
When does “success” start costing more than it gives back?
And why are we so good at building lives we secretly want to escape from?

I don’t have all the answers.

I have opinions, questions, stories, and probably a few questionable decisions left to make.

This is The High-Yield Life

Let’s see what happens. 🔜

[REAL CONVERSATIONS @TheHighYield]

After ten years of marriage and a divorce, I've learned that the loneliest place isn't being alone. It's being with someone who makes you feel like you're constantly auditioning for a role you thought was already yours. 🤍
And the cruelest part? Sometimes we mistake those occasional moments of affection for proof that the love we imagined is still there.

But here's what I know now: love shouldn't feel like a waiting room where you're hoping someone will finally call your name.
I'm curious… why is it sometimes easier to accept being wanted occasionally than to admit we deserve to be chosen consistently?

[REAL CONVERSATIONS @TheHighYield]

After ten years of marriage and a divorce, I've learned that the most painful part of betrayal isn't always what someone did. It's realizing they allowed you to make decisions based on a future they never intended to give you. 🤍

Wanting something casual isn't cruel. Pretending you want forever to get something temporary is.

And I couldn't help but wonder… when did being honest about our intentions become more frightening than breaking someone else's heart?

[REAL CONVERSATIONS @TheHighYield]

At 35, I've officially retired from confusing grand gestures with great love. 🤍

Flowers are beautiful but someone remembering what worries you, noticing when you're tired, and quietly making your Tuesday a little easier?

That's romance without an audience.

And perhaps that's what makes consideration so irresistible: someone is thinking about your happiness even when there's nothing in it for them.
Because being adored is lovely. Being genuinely considered? That's the love story I want. 💕

[REAL CONVERSATIONS @TheHighYield]

I used to believe this, too. Until my marriage ended after ten years. 🤍
And it taught me something I wish we talked about more: choosing love every day is beautiful but only when both people are making that choice.

Sometimes staying means fighting for the relationship. Sometimes it means being the only one fighting.

I still believe in falling in love with the same person over and over again. But I believe even more in two people who refuse to leave the other carrying the entire marriage.

Perhaps the secret isn't how many times you fall back in love. It's how many times you both decide to catch each other. 🤍

[REAL CONVERSATIONS @TheHighYield]

I've always believed that the most seductive thing a person can do is make you feel safe enough to be completely yourself.

Because chemistry might make you want to take your clothes off. Emotional intimacy makes you want to take your armor off.

And honestly? That's a whole different kind of attraction. 🤍

Forget the candlelight and expensive perfume. Give me a man who can talk about his fears, ask about mine and make a two-hour conversation feel like five minutes.

I've always believed that the most seductive thing a person can do is make you feel safe enough to be completely yourself.
It's the very idea behind Real Conversations.
Because chemistry might make you want to take your clothes off. Emotional intimacy makes you want to take your armor off.

And honestly? That's a whole different kind of attraction. 🤍

[REAL CONVERSATIONS @TheHighYield]

I think there's something incredibly intimate about not having to translate yourself for someone. 🤍
After years of believing that enough conversations could fix almost anything, I've learned that being heard and being understood are two very different experiences.

It's one of the reasons I created Real Conversations. Not because we need more words, but because we need more moments when our words genuinely reach someone.
And I couldn't help but wonder… isn't the rarest kind of intimacy finding someone who understands even the things you're still struggling to explain to yourself?

[Immy @Immy_220]

A thousand conversations could never replace the peace of feeling truly understood
Real closeness lives in the things words cannot fully explain

[REAL CONVERSATIONS @TheHighYield]

This is exactly the kind of love I believe in. 🤍
After ten years of marriage and a divorce, I've learned that being able to laugh together is wonderful. But being able to talk about money, fears, disappointment, and uncomfortable truths without feeling unsafe? That's intimacy.

It's also why I created Real Conversations.
Because I no longer want a love where we can discuss everything except the things that actually matter.

Romance is lovely but being able to have the difficult conversation and still feel like you're on the same team? That's the kind of love I'd choose.

And I wonder… when did we start confusing avoiding conflict with having a peaceful relationship?

[REAL CONVERSATIONS @TheHighYield]

I know this kind of crying. The kind where nobody has to do anything wrong that day, because life has already been asking too much of you for too long. 🤍
I've lost my mother, gone through a divorce, and had moments when I barely recognized the woman looking back at me.
And I've learned that sometimes you're not crying over one thing. You're grieving the person you were before everything became so complicated.
But perhaps the most important thing to remember is this: you don't have to turn every painful moment into a lesson about being strong.
Sometimes you deserve to fall apart without immediately being expected to put yourself back together.

[REAL CONVERSATIONS @TheHighYield]

I think social media is real life with a very talented editor. 😉
We see the beautiful apartment, not the overdue bills. The romantic dinner, not the argument on the way home. The courageous career change, not the woman lying awake wondering whether she's made a terrible mistake.
I'm 35, recently left my job to pursue writing, and I can promise you: even the most exciting new chapter comes with pages nobody photographs.
Perhaps the problem isn't that people only show us their highlights... It's that we keep comparing them to our behind-the-scenes.

And I wonder… how much happier would we be if we stopped treating someone else's edited moments as evidence that our real lives aren't enough? 🤍

[REAL CONVERSATIONS @TheHighYield]

I'm 35, and I've just left a secure job to pursue my dream of living from my writing. So this one feels personal.
I've discovered that the hardest part isn't making a decision people don't understand. It's resisting the urge to turn your entire life into a PowerPoint presentation justifying it.
Not everyone needs to understand your next chapter. Especially if they're still judging you by the last one.
And perhaps that's what freedom really looks like: being willing to disappoint other people's expectations without abandoning your own dreams.

[REAL CONVERSATIONS @TheHighYield]

I love this perspective. 🤍 Although I think we need to acknowledge how much grief comes with realizing someone can stay in your life, just not in the role you once imagined for them.
Sometimes the person you wanted to call at midnight becomes someone you can happily have coffee with at noon. And perhaps that's okay.
At 35, I'm learning that not everyone needs a permanent seat at my table, but not everyone needs to be escorted out of the restaurant either.
Of course, some relationships genuinely need to end but others simply need different boundaries.

Emotional maturity isn't always knowing when to walk away. Most of the time it's knowing how close someone can safely stand.

I'm curious… is accepting someone's limitations an act of love, or is the hardest part accepting what the relationship will never become? 🤍

[REAL CONVERSATIONS @TheHighYield]

Oh, yes. And I think the most unsettling part isn't realizing how unkind someone has been. It's remembering all the times you explained their behavior away because you loved them. 🤍
After ten years of marriage and a divorce, I've learned that how someone treats you when you're vulnerable tells you far more than how they treat you when everything is easy.
And the strangest part? Once you see the pattern, even the beautiful memories start looking different.

Have you ever found yourself grieving not just the person, but the version of them you thought you knew?

[REAL CONVERSATIONS @TheHighYield]

I've reached an age where a luxury car impresses me considerably less than someone who keeps their word.
After everything life has taught me about love and trust, I've realized that character reveals itself in the smallest moments: how someone treats a stranger, handles disappointment, or behaves when there's nothing to gain.
Because anyone can afford to look impressive. Not everyone can afford to be decent when it costs them something.
And isn't that the kind of wealth we should be paying more attention to? 🤍

[REAL CONVERSATIONS @TheHighYield]

By bedtime, I’d considered changing careers and moving somewhere with better light.

Ambitious, considering I hadn’t removed my mascara.

I chose one task to hand over tomorrow.

What would you like to make room for?

[REAL CONVERSATIONS @TheHighYield]

I used to believe that loving someone meant learning to live with their imperfections. After ten years of marriage and a divorce, I've come to believe something slightly different🤍
There's a difference between loving an imperfect person and accepting a relationship that repeatedly breaks your trust.
A forgotten anniversary? Human. A difficult conversation? Inevitable. A mistake followed by genuine accountability? That's where love can grow.
But forgiveness without changed behavior isn't patience. Sometimes it's just pain with better manners.
Perhaps lasting love isn't about finding someone who never hurts you. It's finding someone who cares enough not to keep hurting you in the same way.
And I'm curious… where do you draw the line between accepting someone's imperfections and abandoning your own needs?

[REAL CONVERSATIONS @TheHighYield]

This is exactly the kind of friendship I want 🤍
I've started to think one of the greatest luxuries in adulthood is having women around you who don't secretly need your life to be smaller for theirs to feel bigger.
The ones you can call with wonderful news without first checking whether it's a good day for them to hear it.
Because friendship shouldn't require us to make our happiness more digestible.
And I'm curious… isn't being genuinely celebrated, without comparison or competition, one of the most underrated forms of love?

[REAL CONVERSATIONS @TheHighYield]

I agree that loyalty should never come at the expense of your peace.
But I've learned something else: you don't always need to prove someone has bad intentions to decide a relationship is no longer healthy for you.

Sometimes the pattern is enough. The repeated dishonesty. The way you feel smaller after every conversation.
At 35, I've stopped believing that protecting my peace requires a courtroom full of evidence.
You can wish someone well and still decide they no longer have a place at your table.

And perhaps that's what self-respect looks like: knowing when to stop explaining and start choosing yourself.
