Let’s see if disciplined engineering edges can actually compound.
Let’s fucking go.
Why Engineers Make Great Investors (From a Superyacht Engineer)
As a marine engineer who’s spent years in the engine room fixing high-pressure systems under tight deadlines, I’ve realised the skills that keep a 100m yacht running smoothly are the exact same ones that crush it in the markets:
• Debugging complex problems all day trains you to analyse charts and data without emotion – no panic selling when the market “overheats”.
Risk management is life or death at sea: one wrong calculation and things go south fast. Same with position sizing and stop losses.
• Patience – overhauling a main engine takes weeks of methodical work. Investing? Compound over years, not days.
• Systems thinking: We build redundancies and follow protocols. In trading, that’s sticking to your strategy, backtesting, and letting winners run.
• Volatility? Try handling 10m swells while keeping generators stable. Markets dipping feels like calm waters in comparison.
Not every engineer gets rich trading, but that logical, process-driven mindset gives us a serious edge. NFA, just my experience turning wrenches into wins.
Patience paying off on the challenge account 3k-1Million. $OSCR biggest gainers today and $ASTS overall. No positions added or removed in December or January.
What I did this week:
I changed a sea water pump on the Caterpillar main engines. Then stripped the old one down and overhauled it ready as a spare.
I fixed a bridge window wiper that was not functional,
I repaired a galley induction hob.
I completed performance reviews for the engine room team.
I handed over to the other Chief engineer .
I sat on the beach at St.Marteen watching the planes land.
Flew home.
Checked over the charts and news regarding current holdings in challenge account.
Continue to hold:
$ASTS target $150
$NVO target $150
$ZETA target $30+
$HIMS target $130
$JD target $100+
$OSCR target $40+
$ETH target $15,000
I will not sell any of these positions until these targets are hit and I will add on drops. I have many more stocks I would like to add but running the challenge account in the same manner I started out and only adding capital from salary. In the style of a small account I will not add for the next two months- why? Because people use their excess cash at Xmas on family and not investments.
