.@ezraklein: “What is, to you, the ‘rage economy’?”
@JamesTalarico: “The billionaires own the algorithms and the news networks. They have created for-profit platforms that divide us on an hourly basis — by party, by race, by gender, by religion. They elevate the most extreme voices very strategically to provoke our outrage, because that leads to more clicks, which leads to more money for them.
They are selling us conflict right into our bloodstream, and they’re calling it connection.
And I think it’s left people starving for actual community.”
What @jamestalarico says here is so true. Social media really should be called "anti-social media" because it uses our data to choose what we see and shoves us into silos of outrage, resentment and discontent so we stay on line. It is tearing our country apart for profit.
I have been trying to work out why the Carlson—Rees-Mogg interview is going viral. I think it’s because because it represents the moment when traditional conservatism, defined by courtesy, self-restraint and truth, visibly overcomes the feverish, conspiracist and bellicose post-liberal Right.
Sir @Jacob_Rees_Mogg was the perfect instrument of destruction. He is a man of unquestioned sincerity, intellect and courtliness. He was one of only two Ali G interviewees to emerge with his reputation enhanced, the other being Tony Benn, and for the same reason: utter sincerity. With Tucker, as with the brilliant Baron-Cohen, he bats away feverish, crackpot claims in a calm, measured and devastatingly gracious way.
What ended McCarthyism was the dignified put down delivered by the Army’s lawyer, Joseph Welch, on live TV in June 1954: “Senator, you have done enough. Have you no sense of decency?” Joe McCarthy died three years later at the age of 48, broken and disgraced.
As Welch to McCarthy, so Mogg to Tucker.
People keep saying Trump term II is the most corrupt administration ever, so I built a model to find out if it was true.
I took the UN's definition of corruption, turned it into eight criteria and 100 points, and scored the leaders history remembers for looting their countries: Marcos, Suharto, Mobutu, Abacha, Obiang, Putin.
Then I put every president since Eisenhower on the same scale, both parties, with every exoneration counted right alongside the convictions.
Nixon scored 41 and no other American President scored over a 25.
Trump's second term scored a 91, which ties him with Suharto and Mobutu and puts him above Marcos and Abacha.
So he is not only the most corrupt president in American history. At this pace he finishes his term level with the most corrupt rulers of the last hundred years.
PSA: don't come in my comments arguing about the results if you haven't read the full article, because ignorance is a choice.
Full article is up now on my Substack (link in bio) and it's free.
Ossoff: As grim as things have been, there really is so much that we can accomplish as a nation once we come back together.
Look, the American people, not just Democrats, are opposed to secret corporate money in politics. The American people, not just Democrats, believe that insurance companies shouldn't be able to deny us the health care that we need. The American people, not just Democrats, want us to take AI seriously and our obligations to govern on behalf of our national security and the security of future generations seriously.
And I hope that the example of these conservative Republican mayors in Georgia backing my campaign gives people some hope that we can come together again as a country and achieve great national things together.
Saudi Arabia will run out of oil reserves for export in 5 to 7 days if operations at the key East-West Pipeline do not resume, Reuters reports.
This would result in the loss of up to 4% of global supply.
Trump set the Middle East ablaze with his clumsily prepared war, yet today he says Ukraine must stop attacking the Russian oil industry.
This guy is either the most corrupt or the stupidest being on our planet.
Increasingly clear over the past two weeks that however much your company is worried about the cybersecurity environment, it is not worried enough.
The WeWorm demonstration shows how effective bad actors can be. The Hugging Face Incident shows you don’t even need bad actors.
Another neat one: I had GPT-6 Astra build a model of a famous never-built building, Boullée’s 1784 Centotaph. There were only a few black and white sketches to work with, along with a description.
It built a full Blender model & directed a dramatic narrated walkthrough of it.

Ossoff: This war in Iran is the worst foreign policy blunder since Iraq. And just like the Iraq War, it's a war built on lies. Let’s update the record:
On day one, the president said it was running ahead of schedule. On day 10, he said it was very complete . Day 21, getting very close . Day 32, leaving very soon . On day 39, the President of the United States said a whole civilization will die…
And on the next day, day 40, he declared total and complete victory . Day 67, great progress. Day 79, the clock is ticking. Today is day 92 . And on day 92 Iran's ballistic missiles and drones have not been destroyed. The Strait of Hormuz, which was opened before the war is still closed. The regime is intact along with its stockpile of highly enriched uranium—a stockpile Iran only built after President Trump shredded President Obama's Iran deal
