@spartan_vault@madis259 I would say that if you take a corporate writing gig like Schlerf, Reed & Infinite's guys did, you inherently accept that your work is a product that can & will be tossed if it gets in the way of future fan accessibility. Just the nature of the beast, art vs commerce.
@Mikearice@halo2mappack Better retention than Halo 4 isn't anything to boast about & better than Reach wouldn't be something I'm willing to believe without hard numbers. I like Halo 5 a lot but it's not exactly a beloved classic or even consistently regarded as good but flawed by most.
@MajorMinority27@halo2mappack OP covered the basics, but the group who did Hunt The Truth revealed around the time Infinite crashed & burned that they were sent a list of story notes & then almost no follow-up communication, even when they inquired. That probably applied to most of the marketing.
@AnotherWolfwood@PalmyrPar 4 knew that satire has to try & avoid explicitly dating itself, it casts a broad net. Its political allusions to GOP & Dem policies are vague & still fit today. Its economic & migration topics are the same. 5 was talking about Facebook, hipsters & Lindsay Lohan in 2014. Dated.
@Ostrhodesien@PalmyrPar I've said since launch that they aren't even villains, they're wacky side characters until the game decides they aren't 5 minutes before it ends. Stretch (the black guy) only appears once in a mission where he's a punching bag for Franklin. The writing is so terrible.
@mustarastas88@neohominin@JeremiahDJohns "Ensure it remains attainable." The Meereenese Knot is a massive clusterfuck when it comes to progressing the story & that's only one complication out of many towards reaching whatever ending GRRM may have in mind. The pieces don't fit together because they can't anymore.
@The_Cool_Mule@neohominin@JeremiahDJohns You don't need to be a famous author to have some common sense. You can do what you want when you write, but if you want to be able to get a project finished & released, why wouldn't you have some sort of plan you stick to?
@FischerKing64 Something you really don't appreciate til prime adulthood & beyond. After 21, you're generally not going to make any more truly close friends the way you did in youth & by your late 20s most of them will be settled & busy anyway. It's a long adulthood without real world friends.
@RealDannySwifty@Landeur Blair was able to rule like a dictator through this, a massive majority & control of the party. Britain's issue isn't just subversive traitors, but institutionalised fear to actually rule. Democracy & moderation are for weaklings & cowards, the right needs none of the above.
@Landeur "We'd be violating international law!!"
If continued adherence to said international law prevents you from fixing a problem then you need to withdraw from it asap. That's like letting a homeless man dictate what you can do in your own home only for his benefit.
@The_Cool_Mule@neohominin@JeremiahDJohns "That you know will be more than one entry."
If your first book is picked up, pays off & you know you're doing sequels, you need to actually plan them out, the same way you planned out your first.
@Fromzionshill@neohominin@JeremiahDJohns Good structure is part of what makes a book good. The later ASOIAF books are dragged down by the fact they're basically just adding many DLC episodes onto the existing story. Interesting & often engaging DLCs individually, but tacked on all the same.
@NiedsG@DudespostingWs Well they aren't friends, this is an entirely financial arrangement & the roommate clearly either needs more help than the average stranger (or even a true best friend, let's be honest) can give or is simply unwilling to change. Nothing to be done.
@Fromzionshill@neohominin@JeremiahDJohns Because otherwise you run into the problems Martin did, where he can barely wrap up sub-plots let alone any of the dozen main plots he's also balancing. He's quite literally conceded that his 'gardener' style of writing isn't ideal & has even screwed him over in some ways.
@Anubis117sierra@DudespostingWs People like the roommate have been talked to directly at least a dozen times by adulthood, they're either unable (too disabled) or more often simply unwilling to change. No fixing that, from cradle to grave.
@neohominin@JeremiahDJohns If you're writing a story you know will be more than one entry, you need to know the ending before you start writing & ensure it remains attainable throughout, no different to how you should when writing a one & done.
@ReactionaryLuma The best parts of H5 were the Forge & Customs Browser, only because the small niche playerbase they spawned from 2017-2020 was wonderfully unhinged & highly social despite that. Seriously, it was like Halo 3's prime if everyone was schizophrenic. Delightful really.
@Loceeblo@Construct2021 Theatre was bad in Halo 4 & only got worse in 5 & Infinite, despite them trying to add new features. They can't do it because they're incompetent, that's even the case since 2012 & is unlikely to ever change.
