It is infuriating that, 34 years after the passage of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), cities are still developing transition plans to comply with it.
It amounts to another generation of exclusion of disabled people.
Unacceptable.
Imagine labeling 25% of the population a burden.
Disabled people don’t have to imagine it.
This is what we are confronted with every day.
Disabled people are not a burden.
Ableism is the burden.
Ableism is not just discrimination against disabled people.
It is a belief and a structure that deems disabled people to be inferior to nondisabled people.
