Obv the Squidbeak Splatoon were a part of the problem but (at least iirc) it’s not like they did anything about the Octolings moving to Inkopolis after OE. They were mostly just keeping an eye on Octavio’s military.

Especially because it mirrors actual nature! Certain types of squid eat salmon, but salmon also eat other types of squid! While they aren’t literal animals they are anthropomorphised ones so the fact some of these actual dynamics carry over is super fun imo

My Salmonid hot take is that way too many people, for lack of a better term, kinda woobify them when like. What makes them cool is that they’re basically Mutant Mad Max Fish Vikings. That kicks so much ass. They go around picking fights and having a laugh with it. They’re so cool

Small follow up minor Splatoon Raiders spoilers but the fact that a lot of the loot you find is inkling/Octoling weaponry implies that the Salmonid also just steal shit so it’s a big cycle of everyone being at each other’s throats and it’s really funny to me
