This year, the United States will celebrate its 250th anniversary.
That’s why we’re launching Justice & The Next 250.
Because the next 250 years should not be defined by the problems we inherit, but by what we choose to build together.

‘What The Next 250 Years of American Justice Should Look Like’
“In the United States, we must believe in second chances—for our people and for our institutions. We must revise and redeem, amend and repair, evolve and improve. That instinct is as old as the republic itself.” #Justice250

We’ve learned a lot about what works and fails in our justice system. Follow @thejusttrust and learn more about their newest campaign, Justice & The Next 250.
About some of the early lessons from the founders we may have lost, some important guideposts as we trailblaze the future, and my unwavering belief that nothing is static unless we let it be so. The American justice system can, and must, be better.

The future justice system does not have to look like that of the past. In fact, it will be exactly what we make it. As we approach the 250th birthday of the U.S., I shared a few thoughts with @TIME about this very topic.
One of the questions I get asked a lot working in criminal justice reform is “Can the system really change?” It’s a fair question, given how entrenched this thing is in American lives. But my answer is always yes, that it has to change, and that it’s up to all of us.
Excited for the new Justice & The Next 250 initiative from @thejusttrust. We’ve learned a lot about what works & what doesn’t to reduce crime & improve public safety. Together, we can create a system that enhances safety & justice for all. CCJ is proud to help build that future.
After 250 years, we know what works and fails in the American justice system. This 4th of July, @FWDus is committed to continuing its work to reduce the number of people in prison and jail.

Thank you to @NJBIZ - and everyone who supported me - for naming me a 2026 Health Care Hero in #PublicHealth.
Public Health and #PublicSafety are inseparable, and critical to economic prosperity - good health is good for public safety and builds stronger communities.
It has been a busy year so far:
✅ Helping businesses and stakeholders navigate and optimize upcoming Medicaid and social service work requirements.
✅ Scaling "Healthy Prisons, Healthy Communities" with @HHSGov because better health outcomes lead to better #PublicSafety outcomes - and stronger communities. Big thanks to @thejusttrust for believing in this project, and @CLALeadership for partnering with us.
✅ Implementing the Dietary Guidelines for American in prisons and beyond, because healthy eating is the foundation of strong health.
✅ Helping businesses develop #HealthIT + #SDoH management as part of their capture strategy.
✅ Protecting farms and farmers with @USDA to ensure access to real food.
✅ Navigating the 1115 landscape to create true coordinated care.
And the year is only half over!

It was incredible to see justice reform so beautifully represented at @TEDTalks 2026. Shout out to my friends @SusanBurtonLA and Dwayne Betts for owning that stage and courageously sharing your stories with the world. Ideas worth spreading — far and wide.
We ask our #prisons to be #hospitals mental health facilities, farms, housing, food service, make our communities safer and so much more - but we don’t always resource them properly for these monumental tasks.
So we launched Healthy Prisons, Healthy Communities to fix this policy gap and hear from the people leading our prisons every day. Thanks to @CLALeadership for partnering with Cottage Four, LLC, @jamelholley and @thejusttrust to make this a reality - and for allowing us to present in closed door session yesterday.
Public health is public safety.
More highlights and wins from our work since 2022 through the last year. We'll show you how -- together with our partners -- we can narrow the funnel into the justice system, improve the experience inside, get people home, and keep them there.
For more visit our annual report.
Narrowing the funnel in is about building our capacity to respond in smarter, more data-informed and human-centered ways to reduce future crime and hold people accountable in transformative ways.
Narrowing The Funnel In ⇨⇨⇨:
We have an incredibly wide funnel into the American justice system. That’s because we use it as a catch-all to treat every problem under the sun. A tool belt with one big tool.
That can mean being removed from the community for public safety reasons if necessary (see "middle of the funnel"), but it also means access to addiction treatment, counseling, education or work programs to dramatically reduce the need for justice interventions.
At The Just Trust, we're interested in changing how justice flows in this country—looking deeply at how people are pulled into the justice system, what happens once they’re there, and what happens on the other side.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be walking through each part of what we call "The Justice Funnel"—from entry to exit—sharing where intervention matters most and how investments, policy, and culture can reshape outcomes over time.
