"A prebuilt is better!"
The Steam Machine is the size of a tissue box, near silent, uses only 140W of power, will be easily repairable, isn't limited to SteamOS and can never be rendered inoperable by a ban or shutdown, and has far cheaper games through Steam.
And just works.
@Madz_MG@FumeGaming95 if you’re fine with it being mATX huge, sure. try to scout parts for a sff machine that small and as powerful, check if it arrives at that price point with similar performance as the steam machine. not to mention the headaches and frustration you’d get building around a sff case.
I think before everyone writes off the Steam Machine, you should realize that building a similar specced machine would be around the same price as this machine give or take $100 bucks, and you don’t have to build it.
So, while it may not contend with console prices anymore, this is a super convenient way to jump into PC gaming and the Steam ecosystem. You wouldn’t need to research and buy all the parts, deal with windows/software installation, or physically building it. It’s just a ready to go system to jump right into PC gaming.
With its simple form factor, you can still plop that bad larry right in your entertainment center for couch gaming on your big TV like your used to or you can just put it at your desk and use it like a traditional PC. The simplicity of it being a console/PC hybrid makes it a nice entry point for a console gamer to get into PC gaming. If you just want to plug and play, you can. If you want all the bells and whistles of deep PC gaming, this is an open machine to do that.
If you treat this like an entry point into PC gaming, I think the ease of this machine will make it very enjoyable but if you compare it to consoles like the Switch 2 and base PS5, it’s absolutely not worth the price right now.
Oh, and don’t forget, you can also use this to emulate all those games from your childhood you no longer have access to.
@SUPERBLOWFLY@ArtistsArise true. twitter users tend to make their own partslist that focuses on raw bang for buck, yet disregards on things like form factor at all.
if you tried to find sff parts, it might actually be as expensive as the steam machine while being not as small and of the same performance.
@CoddyHere@SUPERBLOWFLY@ArtistsArise people seem to forget that steam machine aims to bring the best of both worlds in a 6 inch box, and achieving that goal would come with sacrifices
up to the consumer, tbh. valve is just giving the market an opportunity to have a taste of pc gaming w/o the hassle of building one.
I dont call anything "friendslop" i only say friendgem because with my friends every minute we get to spend together is a priceless gem worth treasuring :D
