I'm quitting Twitter. My leaving isn't going to make or break the site, but I will no longer contribute my time, energy, and clicks to feed a billionaire's ego.
The internet and social media can be so much more than what they turned it into.
Details for keeping in touch below.
The best way to keep in touch is to join the Happy Coding forum: https://t.co/chqa7pcYWb

So, logistically: I'm done. I won't post, retweet, or like anything on Twitter. I'm waffling on deleting my account, and I leave room for coming back if something very dramatic changes.
But this is me officially leaving. I encourage you to do the same.
One of these is not like the others... 🤔
(I'm looking for folks to follow on Mastodon by searching for people with Mastodon links in their names, and apparently Elon Musk is inserted in the results. Even more weirdly, he disappears after about a minute or so.)
I've been getting so much NFT spam lately that I'm not even bothering to block it anymore. I'm just ignoring notifications entirely.
On the bright side, this is making it much easier to leave.
Wow, my notifications are full of this shit now. Thanks, Space Karen, you make leaving this place easier and easier.
I'm mot going to do your work for you and mark all this crap as spam.
We are now Twitters anti-spam department.
After a month of moving stuff around, breaking everything, obsessing over CSS, and thinking about this way too much, I'm calling the Happy Coding redesign done:

Click around and let me know what you think!
I've been thinking about redesigning Happy Coding. I don't have a UX team to whiteboard with, so I wrote this to help me brainstorm.

I still find myself asking the same questions I was asking when I started writing it, so I'm definitely open to input!
Now we're working on final projects!

One of my favorite things about this class is how unique everybody's projects are, so I'm excited to see these!
I'm teaching Intro to Creative Web Development this semester!
It's officially through Millersville University, but I'm also posting all of the course content for free online. If you want to learn (or teach!) creative web development, follow along in this thread 🧵
In week 13, we tied everything together by learning about JavaScript libraries: https://t.co/Z3l65vWGKE
This is an ah-ha moment that I've been building up to for the entire class, so it's cool to finally get here.
This is my new favorite example of "leadership" focusing on shallow engagement metrics instead of understanding what's really happening. Screenshotting this to use in my next presentation.
(The "Twitter usage" is everybody plugging their other pages in case Twitter goes down.)
Twitter feels very surreal right now. I was driving all day and not looking at it. Now I'm home and I can tell that *something* happened, but I don't know what it was. Everyone is ominously saying goodbye to each other, but I don't know why. I'm afraid to ask what I missed?
embrace alternative platforms. try them out for what they are, not what they aren’t. value them for their distance from the status quo. big social media hasn’t exactly been good for the world, so use this moment to see what else is out there.
