South Africa needs more activism and patriotism,
citizens who care enough to speak up, demand accountability, and push the country forward.
Real change begins when people refuse to stay silent.
Mr @MbalulaFikile, let me begin by condemning incidents of looting and harassment that sometimes accompany public demonstrations. The law must take its course.
I acknowledge your reflections on the marches and appreciate that they have reignited discussion on illegal immigration in SA. This time, the matter does not appear to be going away.
My engagement with your statement is grounded in the ANC’s own resolutions on peace and stability. The ANC’s 53rd national conference , particularly pages 36-37 of its resolutions, explicitly recognised that undocumented migration poses both economic and security threats to the Republic. The Conference further resolved that legislation should criminalise the fraudulent acquisition of vital documents such as Identity Documents, treating such acts as serious offences. The 55th conference later acknowledged that financial constraints hampered the establishment of refugee reception centres near ports of entry. So for now "refugees" move inland and spread across the country.
Against this backdrop, how do we reconcile the ANC’s recognition of migration-related risks with your characterisation of those who raise concerns about migration? Does this not risk creating suspicion or skepticism about the ANC’s stated commitment to addressing the economic and security implications of undocumented migration?
The ANC has consistently described itself as the “leader of society.” If society is compelled to mobilise independently, what does this suggest about the effectiveness of that "leader of society"? Are those leading the structures of a "leader of society" in touch with the realities on the ground? Are those deployed by in government by a "leader of society" truly exercising power in service of the people, or merely occupying office while pursuing self-serving activities? Is the "leader of society" not increasingly consumed by internal factional battles, leaving it more inward-looking than outwardly responsive to the needs of communities?
My view is that calls for the full implementation of immigration law are not matters of ideology or abstract principle. They are rooted in the lived experiences of communities, which bear the brunt of illegal immigration. As Sol Dubula (pseudonym of Joe Slovo) observed in The African Communist (No.16, First Quarter 1964): “Big historical changes in society do not originate from changes in men’s ideas; they spring from the practical needs and problems of man’s social, and above all, his economic life.”
In the current context, this quote reminds us that discourse on immigration in South Africa must be grounded in the realities of economic and social pressures faced by communities, not be reduced to rhetoric, theorisation, or the labelling of organisers and participants in marches.
During times of crisis, a "leader of society" must rise above rhetoric and theorisation, and provide objective leadership that guides both discourse and the implementation of practical solutions to the crisis. The law must take its course on illegal immigration.
Thank you for engaging with my post.🇿🇦🙏🏽
I’m deeply honoured and grateful to be appointed as a Master of City Administration (MCA) Global Council Member at the Global Launch Event in Baku on 21 May 2026. The MCA is the world’s first globally coordinated postgraduate degree for city leadership 🇿🇦❤️🇿🇦
I have lived in villages, townships, CBD, and suburbs. Moving through these different spaces has shaped how I see the world and the realities people face each day. As someone currently privileged to live behind security fences and within gated communities, I cannot ignore the voices of those who do not have such protection. I will not dismiss them as charlatans, criminals or lumpens when they call on their government to ensure that only legally documented people must be in the country. Their demand is rooted in a desire for safety and security, something I partly enjoy through the walls around my home and the security patrols in my complex. And if I am unable to fully sympathize or empathize with their struggles, I would rather remain respectfully quiet than deny or dismiss their lived experiences. I will also not shy away from disagreeing with those who are more privileged when they attempt to silence the lived experiences of the less privileged. Morena boloka setjhaba sa heso, O fedise dintwa le matshwenyeho. 🙏🏽

The irony of this statement is almost unbearable. The SAHRC now presents itself as a neutral mediator urgently “engaging communities” on immigration, crime and service delivery tensions, yet the very document reads like an unintended confession of institutional failure spanning decades. Suddenly, in May 2026, the Commission has discovered that communities are angry about collapsing services, strained healthcare systems, housing pressure, crime, labour displacement and state inaction as though these concerns materialised overnight instead of festering publicly for more than twenty years while the Commission repeatedly failed to fulfil its mandatory annual constitutional reporting duties under Section 184(3).
Solo traveling made me smarter and more confident in myself. it also taught me discernment like immediately. as soon as you hit that foriegn airport your intuition is on point. nothing taught me to trust my gut fully like traveling alone.
As someone in middle management, I can tell you that a lot of your colleagues have poor work ethic and need the hard hand of authority. WFH only really works with small specialist teams.
