On this day, 28 June in 1098, at the Battle of Antioch, a starving and exhausted Crusader army marched out of Antioch to face a Muslim force that vastly outnumbered them.

After enduring an eight-month siege, famine, disease, and countless hardships, the Christians had finally captured the city, only to be surrounded themselves by the much larger army of Kerbogha of Mosul.

Despite being heavily outnumbered, the Crusaders launched a bold attack and shattered Kerbogha's forces. To many at the time, the victory was seen as an act of divine providence.
