Happy to have a few days to play board games this past weekend.
Very impressed with HackClad. The characters play distinctly--I want to try all of them. The wrap-around board is so clever for combat. Our only hurdle was a range misprint on one card.
Sometimes processing board game returns at the library means cleaning dry erase boards. ๐
The kids at last week's program loved Madrino. I was worried it would be too complex/random, but they really enjoyed designing and explaining their own floors. It was borrowed immediately.
Played an incredible game of Not For Me. The consecutive comebacks nearly led to a second deck reshuffle, but when the second player from me was about to go out, I looked at my neighbor earnestly. "For YOU..." And he accepted my character card, letting him end the round instead.
Finally got Pride of Ninja to the table. Card drafting with a front/back row dynamic for effects. Comes with 2 decks, and we enjoyed both but Red was definitely more thinky with some risky strats for scoring. Love the artwork and card resolution post-draft.
Ty @Dan_NinjaStar!
It took a moment to figure out the rules for Retake Company, but I found charting out how rounds would replay very interesting. The quick game time helps make the repetition fun and not fiddly.
Magic Shop felt gratifyingly tricky. Many moments where I lined up good plays but couldn't quite get the win because I had forgotten about a suit ability. Incredibly fun, will definitely play again soon.
A green martian from The Green Room! Stoked with these Absolute Martian Manhunter prints, and really impressed by their care with the signed blind bags.
Both Petiquette and Pick N' Packers are great for the holidays because they are fun to watch and ESPECIALLY listen to.
"How could you NOT play a duck in a red hat?!"
"Why would you stack the truck like THAT?"
"We need to go HERE, why aren't you pushing?!" "I AM!"
Barbecubes was a pleasant surprise. Very simple dexterity game that makes good use of the box as a mini grill.
I LOVED Snowp. The scoring rules make the final shots of each round exciting as players plead for others to not eliminate their color.
