The last week of preseason games is here, and four games are tonight. Here’s what I’ll be watching for, and what you should be too📌📌

Steelers at Bills - Pittsburgh positional battles👷‍♂️

Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle are being drafted around the same range, and neither have separated themselves as the top dog. I like Dowdle’s ability as a pure runner, and he showed good promise last year in Carolina, as the RB10 in FPPG from week 5 on.

Also keep an eye on the Steelers’ QB room behind Aaron Rodgers. Both Will Howard and Drew Allar will play tonight. I don’t love either guy in dynasty, even with Rodgers’ career coming to an end soon. But worth keeping tabs on, should anything happen to Rodgers during the season.

Patriots at Browns - Pats RB room🔴🔵

Treveyon Henderson won’t play again this preseason with an ankle injury, so potentially more opportunities for Rhamondre Stevenson, if he plays, to earn more trust and confidence with the staff, or at least not lose any, Cleveland’s backups. Henderson is being drafted around round ahead of Stevenson, yet he may not even be the top guy this year.

49ers at Raiders - Niners RB2 job🔴🟡

Kaelon Black has impressed throughout the preseason, but Jordan James is back from his rib injury and has looked good in his limited reps since returning. This is shaping up to be a real competition for the RB2 role behind the starter, and tonight is one of the last live looks at both of them before the regular season. I’m high on Black in dynasty given CMC’s health history.

Raiders side - RB depth battle 🏴‍☠️

Ashton Jeanty’s injury isn’t as serious as it initially looked. Mike Washington Jr. has probably locked up the immediate backup role behind Jeanty, and should be treated as a valuable handcuff in all formats, but Dylan Laube and Dare Ogunbowale are still fighting for that third RB spot. Worth watching how touches get split between the three of them in the finale.

McConkey is no longer just the slot guy in a crowded receiver room. Keenan Allen is gone, and Mike McDaniel brings in a west coast, YAC style offense that fits perfectly with Ladd’s skillset. Expect him to return to rookie season numbers in year 3.

Smith has long been cast as the WR2 who never quite got his moment as the alpha, but that changes this year. He’ll be lined up outside more frequently this year, and last season posted 3.1 yards per route and 11.9 yards per target from that alignment. He’s still being drafted in the mid-40s, but profiles to be a top-15 receiver this year with room for more.

Mason has reportedly improved his shape this offseason and looks quicker and faster in camp and preseason games. Mason had an efficient 4.8 YPC across 16 games last year including 6 touchdowns to 32 year old Aaron Jones’ 2. With Kyler Murray under center, this offseason should take steps in the right direction.

Coleman is still being treated as the #3 in this backfield, and RJ Harvey has looked decent in preseason, making some nice plays. But his efficiency last year was horrendous. Just 3.7 YPC ranks 256th out of 361 qualifying rookies this century. Sean Payton looked at the tape and said “go draft me a RB,” and here we are. Harvey’s ineffectiveness paired with Dobbins injury history could pave the way for Coleman to have a sizeable role.

Trevor Lawrence finished as the QB1 over the last ten weeks last season, and threw for over 4000 yards and totaled 38 touchdowns, but he’s still being drafted as a borderline QB1. Sure, the 9 scores on the ground might not be repeatable, but he had the 8th best rushing grade among QBs and was schemed up carries, 82 to be exact. The proof is in the pudding with Lawrence.

Tuten’s value has risen in camp, but it’s still not high enough. His efficiency numbers off the charts last year, top 5 rush success rate and top 15 in missed tackles forced among qualified backs. No more Travis Etienne means the bulk of the touches will be his and Liam Cohen isn’t shying away from praising him.
