Contrary to popular belief, we actually finished 8th in the "away games league table" in the end.
We aren't actually that bad away apparently, as weird as that feels!

@hosky2111@LBC@lewis_goodall You're right. It's only a narrow band of graduates like you say, and I suppose that the argument can be made that they *should* pay more because they "gained the most" from their degree. Less said the better about postgraduate loans though!
@hosky2111@LBC@lewis_goodall And honestly, I think it's by design. The system's most profitable borrowers are high earners who never clear the debt. That demographic skews heavily toward upwardly mobile graduates from low-income families. The "success stories" pay the most.
@hosky2111@LBC@lewis_goodall Yes, that's absolutely true. But I meant in a situation where you get a very good grad job (say like 60k), the person on max maintenance loan who did well from a poor background won't ever pay it off - and will actually end up paying the most of anyone in the country over 30 yrs.
So just a tax for general purposes;
-that wealthier students can avoid by paying fees upfront
-where striving harder means paying longer as usurious interest is higher
-perpetually lowers young ppls disposable income; ability to afford a home or form families in the omnicrisis
@LBC@lewis_goodall Example: two graduates, same job, same salary:
Parents helped with rent β Β£55k debt
Borrowed max maintenance β Β£77k debt
The one who needed more help starts Β£22k behind, accrues more interest, and pays for longer.
Same degree. Same job. Different penalty for being poor.
@LBC@lewis_goodall The perverse bit: low-income students borrow more (maintenance), so more interest accrues, so even with a high salary you never outpace it.
Meanwhile someone whose parents paid their rent graduates with a much lower principal and actually pays it off.
It just punishes mobility.
@MikeHun68537113@AaronBastani Ah fair enough. I do feel like the pedestrianisation has actually changed the character of it a fair bit though!! I guess to some extent it's just pushing the bad driving / ASBO type behaviour to the edges more but it does feel like it's a bit more safe to walk around now lol
@MikeHun68537113@AaronBastani I'd suggest actually come visit Bradford. It's actually looking/feeling a lot nicer than it used to with the City of Culture thing going on! Not perfect by any means, don't get me wrong, but it's a bit unfair the brush we get tarred with sometimes now.

They are on their way to their target. Legends digging in to support our amazing dogs and their families
Hey!!! We're Max and Victoria, and in March and April, we're going on a 500km hike in 20 days to raise funds for HeroPaws, a charity that rehomes and rehabilitates retired military and police dogs. These dogs serve with incredible commitment, often putting themselves in extreme danger, for no reason other than pure love and loyalty.
But after their service, many face uncertain futures, and some are even euthanized if they canβt find a home. HeroPaws steps in to give these loyal heros the retirement they deserve by helping with costs like vet bills or giving them a place to stay.
This cause means a lot to us because these dogs give everything without asking for anything in return. Your support will help ensure they receive the care theyβve earned. We're incredibly grateful for any help you can giveβevery donation makes a difference. Thank you for supporting HeroPaws and these amazing animals.
