Separatism vs. Federalism
I am not a separatist. I do not support Alberta leaving Canada. However, I absolutely understand why many Albertans are frustrated, and pretending those frustrations aren't legitimate only fuels the divide.
Those like Wab Kinew who are pissing on Alberta having its democratic say, are the beneficiaries and recipients, of Alberta, its taxpayers, and resources. Unless you’re lobbying Mark Carney or your premier to support Alberta, just shut the fuck up because you wouldn’t accept this:
Alberta's Grievances:
1. Equalization Payments
We're constantly told Albertans "don't understand how equalization works." That's not the issue. People understand that equalization is funded through federal revenues and distributed to provinces with lower fiscal capacity.
What frustrates Albertans is that Alberta is consistently one of the largest net contributors to Canada's economy and tax base, while often feeling that its concerns are ignored. Albertans are contributing billions (4.6) while receiving nothing in return. That money is not delivered by fairies. It’s not coming from the government. It’s coming from the Alberta taxpayer.
2. Representation
Alberta is politically marginalized. Regardless of population growth, (fastest growing in Canada) Alberta has limited influence over federal elections and national policy decisions compared to more vote-rich regions of the country. (Often the recipients of Alberta cash…ahem…Quebec).
3. Resource Development
Albertans aren't asking for anything. They just want responsible development of their natural resources under strong environmental and regulatory oversight.
The frustration comes from years of delays, regulatory uncertainty, political interference, and shifting rules that discourage investment and stall projects. Investors want certainty, and Alberta has often struggled to provide it because of federal roadblocks and prolonged approval processes.
While frustrations are real, separation comes with serious consequences:
1) Alberta would remain landlocked and dependent on negotiations with neighbouring provinces and the United States for market access.
2) Canadians living in Alberta would lose their Canadian citizenship rights and passport benefits unless special arrangements were made.
3) A new country would need to establish its own military, border services, currency framework, and international agreements.
•Economic uncertainty would likely cause significant investor concern during the transition period.
•Trade relationships, pensions, federal transfers, and countless legal agreements would all need to be renegotiated.
The answer isn't separation. The answer is a federal system that works better for everyone - one where Alberta's contributions are recognized, its concerns are heard, and national prosperity isn't achieved by sidelining one of the country's largest economic engines.

😳 President Donald Trump had a fiery on-air showdown during an interview on "Meet the Press" -- with things escalating to the point where he abruptly left after repeated pushback from host Kristen Welker.

The problem with that quote is that it assumes liberty and justice are always on the side of the extremist.
History teaches the opposite.
Every extremist believes they're defending liberty. Every fanatic believes they're pursuing justice. That's precisely why moderation, skepticism, and self reflection matter.
The greatest political failures weren't caused by people who thought they were evil. They were caused by people who became so convinced they were right that they stopped questioning themselves.
Conviction is a virtue.
Extremism is conviction without humility.
Exuse me? Bitch, does you brain only comprehend for 2 sentences, then cut off? Didn’t see the part about the Freedumb convoy?
In 2021, you fucking clown show liberal cultists came for that man with your usual vitriol and recycled nonsense about abortion, LGBTQ, misogynist, etc. He was out for a run and his wife handed him a drink and you people tore him to pieces. Then you elected Blackface who actually hates women for the third fucking time. No Conservative can beat the garbage you people spin.
You want to know who destroyed this country, and truly gave rise to Poilievre? Look in the fucking mirror.

You’re not still playing that game, are you?
The evidence is all public record. Ethics Commissioner reports, SNC-Lavalin, WE Charity, Aga Khan, ArriveCAN, Green Slush Fund, foreign interference findings, and a decade’s worth of headlines.
You don’t need to be an investigator or a journalist to read official reports.
Pretending there have been no scandals requires a level of denial that deserves its own medical study. Head on over to a lab.
Oh boy.
You think Albertans have trouble getting out of their sweatpants and getting to work?
Alberta - home to oilfield workers who spend long days in every weather condition producing Canada’s largest and most important exports. Alberta - home to farmers and ranchers who are up before sunrise tending fields and livestock. Alberta - a province that has contributed billions in net revenues and equalization support to the rest of the country.
And that’s the group you’re accusing of not wanting to work?
That is the most detached take I’ve seen in this whole ordeal.
@BSwirlsi@oldcanadaseries Yes. I’m proving the point that this isn’t new polling the way buddy thinks it is. There wasn’t some new revelation. 🤡
WTF bullshit are you out here proving? That you’re a dumbass with reading comprehension issues?
Well, well done.
Meghan Markle could have had all of this.
If she’d just accepted that the Crown wasn’t there to serve her, but that she was there to serve something much bigger than herself, she could have become one of the most significant royals in modern times.
Coming from Hollywood, she had a front row seat to the exact world she was so desperate to impress. After years of chasing status in those circles, she found herself in a position where the very people she desperately wanted validation from would have been standing when she walked into the room because of the institution she represented.
The thing she never got is that the respect isn’t for the individual. It’s for the Crown, the role, and the centuries of service behind it. Those who understand that thrive. Those who think they’re bigger than it? They crash and burn.
A few years ago, when the monarchy was under real pressure and Catherine was fighting serious health issues, Harry and Meghan had a genuine chance to step up and build something positive. Instead they chose to wage war on the very institution that gave them their platform in the first place.
They wanted the prominence without the protocol, the status without the hierarchy, and the influence without any accountability.
The saddest part is Meghan couldn’t accept playing second fiddle to Catherine. In the end, refusing to accept her place in the institution is exactly what cost her the platform she had inside it.
Pride really has undone a lot of people. And it might end up being the defining lesson of Meghan Markle’s whole story.
NEVER and I mean NEVER, EVER put any stock in a person who voted over and over and over for Justin Trudeau. To this day, they worship that hideous cock sucker.
And you considered Justin Trudeau to be “center”?
You folks decimated Erin O’Toole and described him as “far right” while exusing every hideous thing Trudeau did. You went down the path of left wing extremism until you bred the likes of Pierre Poilievre.
Don’t bother talking about the fringe, because you’re part of it. You just don’t fucking get it.
The current federal government holds a majority it was not given in the 2025 election.
Yet here you are lecturing Albertans about whether they should have a say in the future of their own province.
It seems you’re not much of a fan of democracy when people disagree with you.
Not very Canadian, is it?
If the idea of citizens voting on important issues bothers you that much, perhaps North Korea is a better fit, because Canada is a democracy.
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
As much as I loathe separatists, these pompous assholes are up there with them.
This was always the case - for several years. No one here had a big revelation. It was never going to happen.
The big revelation came when Canadians realized they’d have no one to foot the bill and suddenly all the “fuck you Alberta, get lost” crowd were all vocal about Alberta staying. #Alberta
When people realized they would have to lose their Canadian citizenship, pay Canada to have their airports and ask for permission to enter National Parks like Banff.. the support obviously drops. It's called reality. 🇨🇦
