@DanilaBagr6680 I remember making a graphic comparing Matinyan, Coneglian, Ploshchadnyi, Mishiev, and another goalkeeper (whose name I’ve sadly forgotten) over six matches. The thing that stood out most about Matinyan was his long-ball distribution and the accuracy of those passes.

@DanilaBagr6680 I mainly noticed it during the national youth team matches, but I haven’t watched that many of his league games. Statistically, he’s pretty much on par with the other goalkeepers in the league.

@DanilaBagr6680 Yes, there is indeed some hype around him. I have to admit, I got a little caught up in the hype as well, haha. But we need to give him some time, maybe one or two seasons and a few national team appearances. Then we’ll see whether he can make the big move you’re talking about.

@DanilaBagr6680 No, it’s not a terrible comparison. I could use your exact reasoning for Coneglian: “If he were good, he’d be starting.” But we both know that not starting doesn’t automatically make a player bad, as you rightly pointed out yourself. The same applies to Matinyan.

@DanilaBagr6680 That’s true, and it can indeed be an indication of his goalkeeping, but it still doesn’t mean that goalkeeper A should automatically be preferred over goalkeeper B. We’re seeing a similar situation with Coneglian. He didn’t get many opportunities at first, but look at him now.
