Abascal and Morales Seen Meeting One Day After Court Funding Request
A meeting between 365th District Judge Amado J. Abascal III and County Judge candidate Gerardo “Jerry” Morales is drawing attention across Maverick County.
Judge Abascal addressed Commissioners Court during an open meeting to discuss funding needs for his court. The next day, he was seen at San Miguel Restaurant during lunchtime sitting with Morales.
Current County Judge Ramsey English Cantú later stated during a livestream that he personally observed the two together during a visit to the restaurant.
Morales is running for County Judge, a position that presides over Commissioners Court and plays a direct role in county budget decisions, including funding tied to the courts.
The timing of the meeting has raised questions about perception and judicial conduct. No statements have been released explaining the purpose of the meeting.
As the runoff election approaches, voters are left to interpret what this means.
Should judges and candidates maintain stricter separation during an election cycle?

#BREAKING Afroman Found Not Liable in Defamation Lawsuit Filed by Adams County Deputies
Rapper Afroman has been found not liable in a defamation lawsuit brought by deputies from Adams County, Ohio.
A jury returned a verdict in favor of the artist, clearing him of all claims tied to the case. The lawsuit centered on Afroman’s use of security footage from a 2022 raid on his home, which he later incorporated into multiple viral music videos and diss tracks.
Deputies had argued that the videos caused reputational harm, humiliation, and emotional distress. They sought financial damages related to the use of their likeness and portrayal in the content.
After deliberation, the jury concluded that Afroman’s actions did not meet the legal standard for defamation, resulting in a full defense verdict.
The decision marks a significant outcome in a closely watched case involving artistic expression, public officials, and the use of real-life footage in commercial media.

Mexico Moves to Federalize Puerto Verde Bridge Project
A major shift in cross-border infrastructure planning could reshape the future of international trade in the Eagle Pass–Piedras Negras region. New information indicates the Mexican federal government has stepped in to take control of the Puerto Verde Bridge project, elevating it to priority status.
At the same time, the proposed commercial expansion of International Bridge 2 does not appear on Mexico’s current federal infrastructure priority list and has received no funding allocation. The development raises questions about whether Puerto Verde could become the region’s primary commercial crossing moving forward.
Local leaders and regional stakeholders are now closely watching how these federal decisions across the border could impact economic development and trade routes in Maverick County and Eagle Pass.

Is Your Vote Being Influenced Behind the Scenes?
Questions continue to surface in Maverick County regarding the political alliances surrounding the Jerry Morales campaign.
Obie Salinas, who previously served as chief of staff to former State Representative Poncho Nevárez, has now appeared in local campaign activity.
Public records also reflect a reported $10,000 campaign contribution from Nevárez to Morales.
Voters deserve full transparency. When longtime political operatives and significant campaign donations enter the picture, it is reasonable for the community to ask what influence, if any, comes along with that support.
Elections should center on policy, leadership, and accountability. The public has a right to examine the connections and decide for themselves.

Brandon Herrera Visits Eagle Pass and Meets With Local Voters
I stopped by to see Brandon Herrera during his recent visit to Eagle Pass, where he took time to meet directly with voters and talk about issues impacting Maverick County and South Texas.
Events like this matter. They give people a chance to have real conversations, ask questions, and hear directly from candidates without filters or talking points. Several residents I spoke with appreciated the opportunity to engage one on one and voice concerns about border security, the economy, and the direction of the country.
Whether you agree or disagree with a candidate, showing up and facing voters says a lot. Eagle Pass continues to be an important stop in this election cycle, and people here are paying close attention.
