- Even higher education is subsidized.
- You also don't need to put air-purifiers.
- In case you get fired, there are unemployment benefits.
- So basically high taxes fund: education, healthcare and unemployment uncertainty.

For a salaried Indian in the top bracket, the marginal rate plus cess and surcharge is close to European levels.

On top of that, you pay separately for private school, private hospitals, health insurance, air purifiers, water filters and power backup.

So basically you're paying twice.

I think it was a bad decision to come back to India. It's time to go back to the US.

There is nothing left in India for the GCs, especially males.

I don't want my 5 year old son to face the harsh realities of the reservation, acts and laws, when he grows up.

If one day, he asks me, why can't he get into the top IIT, but his SC/ST friend can, even with half his marks, and the same economic status, I will have no answer. I guess I will just have to say, it's because we don't care about merit, but representation.

A student at IIT Bombay dies by suicide.

Outrage against the IIT admin.

IIT clarifies that the student was caught using ChatGPT for answers during an exam, was counselled. He went to hostel and died by suicide.

Student's father suddenly realised that since last many months, his son was subjected to caste based abuses by Prof Doolla, the faculty who caught him cheating, and this caste based harassment was "under the directions of IIT director".

Politically suitable scenario, caste groups jump in. Dalit Politicians jump in, including those in power and speak against the professor.

The eminent and illustrious professor, with an impeccable career, is now subjected to a media trial, receives threats, faces calls to be hanged, and is booked under the SC/ST Atrocities Act.

The IIT director resign/forced to resign.

The Ministry of Education, under which IIT operates, does not utter a single word in support of the Prof Doolla who is being hounded simply for doing his job as per the laid down procedure.

On the contrary, IIT Bombay today apologized for its tweet about the cheating incident, stating that the cause of death remains under investigation.

Next, in all likelihood Professor Doolla will be sacrificed to calm the caste groups.

This country is beyond repair.

People who moved out of their birthplace after finishing school, coz there were no jobs or higher education, develop this muscle memory. Not overtake rashly, or have a staring contest with a driver on the road, or shout at a waiter, or a cabbie, or anyone who’s a localite. The attitude is always of de-escalation, of reconciliation. Might sound cowardly, but this is how they survive. They always look at the positive side, enjoying the fruits. And ignoring the barbs. Such people when they occasionally travel to another alien land, they never have issues, coz they are conditioned to survive. To co-exist.

There is another side to the 'rich school'

The comparison doesn't stop at the school gate. Eventually, your child brings it home.

They went to Mauritius, everyone is going to this birthday party, why can't we go?

And suddenly, the school you stretched your finances to afford starts creating even more financial pressure at home.

This is where it gets interesting - The parent thinks I am already sacrificing my vacations, savings and lifestyle to give you this school. The child thinks everyone around me has more than I do. Why can't my parents give me the same things?

Both feel deprived, both think the other person doesn't understand. And neither is necessarily wrong.

An adult can rationalise the difference and say, they are richer than us. So what?' A 12-year-old may not have that maturity.

That's why parents make a mistake when they ask only one question: Can I afford this school?'

There is another question worth asking: Can my child comfortably belong to the social environment around this school?

These are two completely different questions.

So before getting your child admitted to a very expensive school, understand your own financial position and the peer group your child is going to spend most of his day with. If there is a huge gap, think carefully.
