I had initially sent a cold email to a professor in the department of Biology when I was seeking grad admission.

The professor got back to me and said, "Based on your research experience, your interests better align with the department of XYZ. Several faculty there work on xyz, yzxc, etc."

Then, he attached three links of the faculty members in that department that I can contact.

I appreciated him and reached out to three of the faculty. One of them replied that she wasn't taking additional student. The second person didn't reply.

The third didn't as well. Then, a few weeks after, I sent a reminder. She acknowledged and was sorry for not responding on time.

She said, "Yeah! Isaac, you can apply. I have fund. I can equally zoom meet with you."

It was that funding part for me. We had online interview and after a few weeks, she decided I can proceed with my application. There're other details i wouldn't bother you with. But it was that opportunity that landed me my scholarship.

Just imagine the twist. Just that one person that can recommend based on your CV. It just dawned on me that I haven't even spoken with that professor over the years in my program.

It was in the process of writing this that I had to check the emails that we exchanged and found out that I have seen him before and I was supposed to take one of his classes in Bioinformatics (just for my learning) but couldn't because of my busy schedules. Maybe it is a good time to personally meet him for thank you message.😁

One thing that stands out while I reminiscence on this is this; Make your CV simple, succinct, and direct to understand.

Let it sell you and tell your supposed audience what your research interests are. It helps to connect you to where you fit.

And another like it, when you don't give up, you will find people that will be interested in helping you to achieve your goal. Don't be discouraged if it's working out yet.

So, keep moving. Keep trusting the LORD for the best as you make attempts. The next hit is gonna be loud! Yeah!
