The joke comes from the legendary “What the dog doing?” meme.

Chinese internet culture noticed that “What the dog doing?” sounds surprisingly close to “wǒ de dāo dùn” 我的刀盾 which literally means “my sword and shield.”

That phonetic joke completely transformed the meme:

I found a literal elephant mascot inside Robinhood’s official infrastructure docs.

It’s called Hadoop.

Robinhood published it directly in their engineering article about their Batch Processing Platform, where Hadoop appears as part of the data stack powering large-scale batch processing.

So what is Hadoop?

Apache Hadoop is a big-data framework used to store and process huge amounts of data across many machines.

Inside Robinhood’s infrastructure, Hadoop helped power large-scale data workloads alongside tools like Spark, Airflow, S3, and Hive Metastore.

Robinhood also mentions Hadoop YARN in their Data Lake architecture, showing that Hadoop was part of the system used to manage large-scale compute and data processing.

And yes, its visual identity is the famous yellow elephant.
