English should teach us a lot more than what’s described here - with opportunities to study & analyse the language of texts in the world - journalism, blogs, social media etc. It used to pre-Gove. It doesn’t now. And Media Studies has been devalued. That’s the point.
@tombennett71 Media studies (and media within English) is best positioned in the curriculum to do this important work - this has been completely marginalised over the last fourteen years. We advocate for a return to compulsory media education for all, starting in primary.
We absolutely agree with the Mayor, in fact both the MEA and Steve Connolly, our MEA chair, suggested it wasn't fit for purpose some time ago! Read Steve’s and @poppygibsonuk piece here👇
