What can we learn from someone who has lived to 90 years old? We must take responsibility for our health. What we eat, what we drink, and how we live will shape our well-being for many years to come. Canon Rev. James K. Mutazihana is a powerful example of this truth. At 90, he remains healthy and strong—a testament to a disciplined, purposeful life. He never drank or smoked, educated his children, and lived a life of service—principles that have guided his long journey.
Yesterday, I reflected on these lessons as I joined him, his family, and friends for a thanksgiving ceremony in Bitereko Sub-County, Ruhinda North Constituency, Mitooma District. Canon Mutazihana served the church faithfully for forty years, from 1960 to 2000. He was the pioneer Dean of Bweranyangyi Deanery (1980–1992) and the first Archdeacon of Kigarama Archdeaconry.
He has been more than a parent to me—always praying for me whenever I am in the village. As we celebrated his life yesterday , we were reminded that aging well is not an accident but the result of choices made daily. He is a living example from whom we should all learn.
