This week is National Farm Animals Awareness Week. It brings attention to the plight of animals housed in “factory farms” and the necessity to increase humane handling and living conditions for them. These creatures are deserving of our respect and care.

The second Sunday of September is National Pet Memorial Day. We remember those who are longer with us, like Star here, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge back in 2018.

The Animal Welfare Act was enacted 57 years ago today. Initially, it was named the Laboratory Animal Welfare Act and used to regulate animals used in research. Through amendments made since its inception, it sets the minimum standards of care and protection for all animals.
